Crowdfunding can be a great way support indie/small dev groups who have the knowledge and experience but lack the capital for large scale projects. On the other hand, a system that let's you throw money in anyone's direction with no enforcement on spending makes funding projects a risky endeavor.

Concluding Question: Will crowdfunding become more popular, or will it remain a system of risky investments mixed into a handful of potential projects?

I love it, but theirs always those people that will try and abuse it just for free money with no actual game. If their was an actual enforcement team to prevent this, it would be a lot better because it actually gives smaller teams a chance at releasing a game and sometimes Indie games are a lot better than mainstream games in my opinion. So basically I hope this continues as it could bring about tons of amazing games.

I feel this will continue to grow and become a new popular thing out in the world.

One huge problem I see occurring is that people are going to end up abusing it and trying to gain free money. It isn't hard to write a great description and put up a pretty picture and get people's money. All in all though, I could see this helping many groups out there wanting to get a game idea or whatever else out into the public for all to see.

It's brilliant and I could see myself using it one day.

I hope people do not abuse this and that there is a security team or something to protect it.

Looks good also would be cool if we got a little gift for funding them like if its a game some small DLC? Would be cool but nice idea I like it!

Wait would somebody be able to exposing how this actually works, I'm not really understanding it?

I think with no enforcement it will be a scammers dream. Throw up some mock image of a new game and tell people that it's the next big thing, then never put it out. Like Miss said, they need to have a enforcement team to make sure whatever the devs are trying to get money for is legit. But if it all works out and it goes well, it could possibly be a big help with the indie games.

google kickstart.

Say you have a really good idea for a product, but no funds or means to make it more. Make one, post on a crowd funding site, and people donate and get the product(s) at that price

Essentially large scale begging. Pebble smart watches were crowdfunded, i think.

I think its a great idea. I also think it will burn out eventually.

I think that crowd funding is an incredibly important and useful tool. Look into Everett Roger's Diffusion of Innovation theory. It takes that small amount of people (the innovators/crowd funding) to make a big product.

One of the best examples of this is the Oculus Rift. It was crowd funded on a site called kick starter and just sold to Facebook for over a billion dollars. That billion dollar innovation would have never existed if it weren't for crowd funding. It lets the small guy with a great idea big it to the market and get it out to the masses. People that crowd fund generally don't have the budget to make this idea come true but with crowd funding we've seen many more innovations come to light.

tl;dr: Crowd funding is an amazing tool that helps new innovations be developed and become available to the population.

Oh wow, I think this has a lot of potential!
Say, if everyone put $1 into one of these things, there would be so much money for new games and projects to be made.
