Is DayZ standalone worth it?

Me and my friend were planning on buying it, but we are having mixed feelings about it.

What are your thoughts on it?

I have friends who have already bought it and said that they got bored after a bit.

No it's not.

1) No cars and it sucks so much
2) Bugs all the time such as losing all your gear after logging out.
3) Barely any gear

If your willing to put up with a few bugs here and there, somewhat demanding spec requirements, and many bandits, then you should get it. I have a little over 100 hours logged on that game even when I've played a good 75 hours or more alone and hiding from other players, yet I still love it. People say "oh the walking takes forever and the zombies run through walls", what they fail to understand is that path finding for the zombie ai is being worked on daily at Bohemia (which they've said they've had fantastic results lately) and that the game is not developed quite enough to support vehicles. I would rather run 45 minutes from north to south than drive through places getting shot at by other players. When people have vehicles they tend to forget that part of the game is about looting, instead they try to run down other players and consider that the best thing ever.

If you would rather get the mod, go ahead, it's less than $7 right now to get Arma 2 and the DLC requireed, however I feel the Standalone is still worth the regular $30 since it's more about player interaction as well as the adventures you have whether your alone, or with friends.

I would say it is worth it defiantly. Although there are MANY MANY bugs, it is still a fun game. You are given like a note/warning when launching the game saying that it is in alpha and just stuff like that.
Although there are no vehicles, they will be added in the future. This game is very frustrating at times but only because it is in the alpha stage. I would get in now as it is cheaper than when it will be released. Also, gun fights are SO FUN in this game.

I somewhere around 100 hours and I say it was worth it. It is mostly fun with friends.

No cars. It is in alpha, they will be implemented in the future. The controls for vehicles, helicopters, and boats are already in the game.

When you lose your gear after logging is because of either getting killed, knocked out, handcuffed, or anything of that sort. Your character stays in the game from somewhere from 30 seconds to a minute. That is to prevent combat logging.

You must not know where to look and/or are playing on a full server where everything is looted. From there, you use your fresh spawn self to knock some one unconscious and take his loot. Very easy to do. One hit and they are out. I think the low amount of loot on high pop servers is a good thing.

IT IS EARLY ALPHA. Stuff gets added into the future.

I think the concept of the game actually outweighs the bugs. Sure, there are bugs every once in awhile but it still is extremely fun. ESPECIALLY WITH SOME MATES

My guess is is that you already bought it/made your decision. If you haven't then I suggest you wait a while before buying it. It has a few bugs which do not hinder game playability to much.

The fact that there are no cars only a few guns and weapons sucks, and thats one of the reasons you should buy it. For people who are just buying it, it's a great game if you have friends to play with and its really good for the first 10-20 playthroughs.

After that, it gets very repetitive. It's basically, gear up, find food and water, kill the occasional zombie, and kill as many players/be as friendly as possible until you die and do the process all over again.

My suggestion would be to buy Arma 2 Combined Operations(Arma 2 and Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead). This is, of course, where DayZ was birthed, and it's way more developed content wise(not bug wise). As well as this, there are many amazing adaptions of DayZ that have been created only for the Arma version such as DayZ Epoch that allow you to go to new locations and do so much more than what you do in the original.

Finally, I suggest Arma 2 Combined Ops because you also get a great game that has its own fun game modes besides Day Z. The one gamemode I like is Takistan Life. Its addicting and is great to play if you ever just want to play regular Arma 2 instead of DayZ.

So basically, buy Arma 2 Combined Ops for now on steam for $25.00 USD if you don't already have it and give DayZ SA some more time to develop and grow into it's full fledged self. Hope this helps with your decision if you haven't already made it!
