Synopsis
The Amazing Spider-Man is an action-adventure video game, which is a tie-in to the film of the same name featuring the Marvel Comics superhero Spider-Man. It was developed by Beenox, developer of Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and Spider-Man: Edge of Time, and published by Activision. It was released June 26, 2012 in North America and June 29, 2012 in Europe, on Nintendo DS, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Android, iOS, and Microsoft Windows. On October 13, 2012, it was confirmed that it will be coming to Wii U, in Spring 2013, this version was released March 5, 2013 in North America and March 8, 2013 in Europe as The Amazing Spider-Man: Ultimate Edition in both regions. A PlayStation Vita version was also confirmed to be in development.

Gameplay
The game adopts a free roam style and is an open world game. The combat is very reminiscent to the batman games (arkham asylum etc) and works very well in the genre and this game. The combat is very fun and the added use of spidermans webs means that the combat is incredibly fun. The open world style is very good and swinging around New York City is exhilarating to say the least. There are a number of side missions and collectables in the game and you can find yourself exploring for hours without even thinking about the main missions. The gameplay to this game is fresh and fun although it can become a little repetitive if you keep playing and don't vary it up. The gameplay is essentialy an updated version of spiderman 2 which is a good thing as this was the best one made.

Story
The story is set after the events of the film. Tests have gone wrong at Ozcorp and Gwen Stacy becomes trapped when cross species and hybrid manipulation experiments go wrong. You are tasked with finding the cure but you have opposition from Ozcorp who are trying to destroy anything with hybrid DNA (which obviously happens to include Peter Parker/Spiderman). The story to this game is thrilling and compliments the gameplay well, if you are a fan of the series then you are already invested in the characters that appear in the game, it draws on these connections very well and helps immerse the player into the story. The cutscenes are awesome and really help give narrative and direction to the story, the ending is also very good but I won't spoil it for you.

Graphics
The graphics on this game have a cartoon/comic feel to them, the colours are very nice and the contrast between light and dark colours is excellent (I would like to think this was intentional and is symbolic for good vs evil but I'm probably over thinking it) and they have done a good job at making New York City look excellent as the buildings look very good and the graphics are decent on the whole. The character models could do with a little work but on the whole they are decent (just a tad more detail would be nice) and it would be nice to see a bit more effort on the pedestrians and traffic but they are still okay. The textures are very good and there is no problem with rendering. The lighting and shadows are pretty good on this game and really help set the tone.

CONTROLS
The controls are very good in my opinion and both the combat and free roam swinging have a great feel to them, they have done a fantastic job here and there is no issues. The button layout is very good and they have made good use of the d-pad for quick actions. you can easily manoeuvre spiderman at fast speeds this is due to the great controls. There are some settings you can mess with if you like to but I left them default as they are very good.
