Synopsis

Play as the legendary hero Snake and infiltrate a Cuban military base to rescue the hostages. Can you make it out alive?

Gameplay

Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes doesn't have much to offer in terms of play time. Most players will find that they can complete the core story mission of the game within a few hours or less. After players have completed the main story mission within the game they do however unlock four additional "Side Ops" missions that can be played. The "Side Ops" missions will generate a little more life to the game play time bumping it up a few more hours; depending upon players skill levels.

While playing missions within the game players will quickly be enlightened by all of the things they have came to know and love when it comes to the Metal Gear Solid series. Players can go about a mission however they would like; however the missions are made to be completed through the use of stealth. Long loved features from previous games in the series such as; putting your enemies to sleep and moving their bodies still exist. Some new features have also been incorporated such as; the ability to call in a chopper via player's "iDroid" in order to rescue hostages and complete certain levels. The game urges towards the use of stealth wisely by giving player's weapons a health bar for their silencer attachment. This causes players to think twice before spraying bullets everywhere to kill their enemies.

The gameplay has various cinematic parts that are extremely well developed. All of the cinematic events are filled with action and suspense for players. Upon completion of the core mission within the game a long cinematic plays leaving players almost frustrated. With such a short gameplay life and all of the suspense players are left with an end cinematic that leaves them urging for more; which players won't see until sometime in 2015.

Overall the gameplay within Ground Zeroes is what players have all came to love, while being a little too short for most it still provides a few hours of enjoyment.

Plot

The plot for Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes is intense to say the least. As with most Metal Gear Solid games there is a lot of action and suspense behind the entire plot within the game. Players play as Snake also known as "Big Boss" in the game. Snake has been assigned the task of rescuing a young volunteer within his army named "Chico." Alongside that task he's also been given orders to extract a high value target named "Paz." Both "Chico" and "Paz" are being held captive within a military black site camp known as "Camp Omega" which is under U.S. Marine control. Snake's job is to infiltrate the base without being noticed and successfully extract both "Chico" and "Paz" via "Morpho One" which is the designated e-vac helicopter within the game.

Graphics

The graphics that Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes provides are rather impressive. If players happen to be playing on a newer generation console they will be almost astonished with the graphic improvements within the game. Cinematic portions of the game are among the most detailed of all aspects. In game characters have plenty of detail to their faces such as facial hair, wrinkles, cuts, dirt, and more. This is probably the best graphical part that the game has to offer. The faraway terrain and environment detail within the game are somewhat lackluster of the main characters. Overall players will notice great detail within the main character while being in an environment that is sub-par to everything else.

Controls

One of the problems within Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes would be it's controls. At the very beginning of the game players are expected to know what buttons do what without much explanation prior too the fact. Players find their selves behind enemy lines immediately without knowing how to do much of anything other than walk; potentially off a cliff as I did in my first play of the game. Players are forced to dabble around with the controls and learn through trial and error, or to read to discover what all does what within the game. Once players have established the basics of the controls things become much easier and enjoying. The controls are still not positioned as well as they could be. The buttons that are used to pull out the player's weapon, aim, and shoot are awfully positioned and prove to make things more difficult than they should be for players. In the end players can adjust to it all and pull through all the game has to offer.

Ground Zeroes is so far my second favourite Metal Gear game, Peach Walker is still number 1 though.
