Synopsis

Clash of Clans is a popular iPad/iPhone/iPod game created by "Supercell". It has been available internationally on the iTunes store for free since it's initial v1.7 release on August 2, 2012. Clash of Clans is a strategy game where, like many other strategy games out there, the purpose is to build one's village, unlock different warriors, raid resources from other villages, create a clan and much, much more.

Setting

Well this setting quite surprised me, when i thought it looked bad from screen shots on the app store, when playing it looks the same but feels completely different. It's set in a village and you're in charge of the whole thing. Set in a make-believe world looking like the past. The place amazed me with the activeness of the whole thing, non - playable characters roaming the place which amazed me with the amount of npc's doing activities. Really blew me away. Although they can look quite silly when they are 'zig-zagging' all over the place as they are in 2-D. But the texture of everything is very good, bright and colourful which is what i enjoy in most lively games so overall I'm quite impressed.

Setting Rating:9/10

Gameplay

The Gameplay for this was also like the setting, unexpected. It's a game that involves you running a village and keeping it in balance. Gaining money from shops. Getting elixir(Magic stuff need for most things). There is an XP system in balance so you have the ability to unlock features, which is good as you cannot just fully experience the game and get bored really quickly. There is a lot of combat in this game, you can have an unexpected attack from another user if you play online. Or go and raid a village of creatures if on single player to gain their resources. You can build things that affect how much money/elixir/soldiers you can have, as you need to progress your village from basically scratch. You upgrade the Village's hall to increase the amount of money and elixir you can use so you can't buy the best building straight away as they are over your limit. The more building you build the faster they build in the future. I must say the only flaw with this game is that you have to wait actual time for things to build, which would not bug me if it lasted a few minutes but some can take hours which really puts me off as it slows down the game experience just as you start to get in to it. Overall i would say this was a fun gaming experience apart from the time flaw, but apart from that top notch gaming!

Graphics

The graphics were actually quite good. It had an arty app feel to it, kind of like the bright colourful artwork from plants v zombies. The right balance of texture. Although the graphics were quite high definition so the loading screens took a while and sometimes commands wouldn't work unless i closed and opened the app. Which really let down the whole game.

Controls

As you know it is an app so the game involves just selecting options using your finger/thumb. Which is a shame as it is a combat game i would have enjoyed a battle sequence, even a mini one where you have to mash the screen or something amungst those lines.

Controls Rating:7/10

Overall

In conclusion, this was a delight to play, there was quite a lot you can do and the XP system balances out this game although there are a lot of levels. The graphics were just right they just need an update to improve loading screens and lag, but apart from that i would solidly say i enjoyed it.
