Great Tutorial guide's for Freestyle dash

How To Install/Update and Configure Dashlaunch

Here I will show you how to install and configure Dashlaunch 2.08 for Freeboot 12611

For anyone who does not know, Dashlaunch is a homebrew app that can allow your Jtagged Xbox 360 to autoboot to Freestyle Dash (FSD) without launching the NXE dash first. It can also be used to autoboot to XeXMenu or other apps by holding specific buttons at startup that can be configured to your liking.

Because Dashlaunch is commonly installed prior to installing FSD, I will be showing you how to install Dashlaunch from XeXMenu, but it can also be launched from FSD if you would like to use this tutorial to update your existing Dashlaunch to the latest version.

1: Download Dashlaunch 2.08 [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
2: Download my pre-configured launch.ini [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] unless you are updating, then you can just update yours. Open the launch.ini

It would look like this:

You'll need to change the highlighted text to point Dashlaunch to where your FSD is installed so if your FSD is in HDD:\Apps\Freestyle then you would need to change this line to HDD:\Apps\Freestyle\default.xex

You can also change the other autoboots I have configured to whatever you like. Make sure to save your changes.

3: Extract the downloaded Dashlaunch 2.08 folder somewhere to your computer, then transfer that folder and the launch.ini to a USB drive, or FTP them (Dashlaunch 2.08 folder can go anywhere but launch.ini must go to the root of your hard drive), or even better download my custom XeXMenu ISO that has them pre-loaded [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
4: Launch XeXMenu, (If you do not have XeXMenu installed, Click [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] ) When prompted to sign-in to a profile, just hit B to exit without signing in, or sign in to a profile. You will be presented with XeXMenu.

5: Press the right bumper once to access Devices. By pressing right and left on the Dpad at this screen, you can cycle through the available devices.

6: Cycle over until the contents of the device you have stored the Dashlaunch 2.08 folder and launch.ini on are displayed.

7: If you FTP'd the folder and launch.ini to your hard drive, skip to step 8. If not, read on. Now we will copy the Dashlaunch 2.08 folder and the launch.ini to your hard drive. To copy a file or folder from a device to the hard drive in XeXMenu, highlight the file or folder, then press Y to open the submenu and select Copy. then press right or left to cycle to your hard drive, then press Y and select paste. Place the Dashlaunch 2.08 folder anywhere on your hard drive, then copy the launch.ini to the root of your hard drive.

8: Now cycle to your hard drive, select the folder labeled Dash Launch 2.08, then select the folder inside labeled Installer. Scroll down to the default.xex and select it. It will start the Dash Launch Installer, in a few seconds you should see some text at the bottom of the screen that says Press A to install or Update Dash Launch. Press A to begin installation.

9: It should write a few things to the flash then locate the launch.ini that you copied to the hard drive. It will now say press A to update or B to skip. Press A to update.

10: Here are the different options it will ask you to confirm, and the appropriate button to press for each option:

Would you like to change settings? Press A for yes.
Do you want to be able to relaunch from miniblade in NXE dash? Press A for yes.
Do you want to enable FBDev's ping limit patch? press A for yes.
Do you want to enable mojobjo's content unlock patch? Press A for yes.
Do you want the console to freeze on fatal errors? Press B for no.
Do you want the console to reboot on fatal errors? Press A for yes.
Do you want to enable ability to region spoof with RB on game launch? Press A for yes.
When a default item is set and you are playing a video, exit back to NXE? Press B for no.
When you are playing an XBLA game and use the exit option, exit to NXE? Press B for no.
Do you want to remove the ability to go to system settings via miniblades? Press B for no.

You may wish to enable or disable some of these options, but if you don't know what it is and don't know what you're doing and just blindly following my instructions, just follow the above steps exactly.

At this point it should say writing file... success, then it will say flashing done, press A to shutdown. Go ahead and press A to shutdown.

That's it if you followed my instructions you should be autobooting into FSD on startup.

How to add custom covers,banners, and icons to FSD -
All credit goes to Cyborg Raven over at Team FSD Very Happy

Freestyle Dash has a built in http webserver that allows you to view your game collections, homebrew and apps, edit their displayed artwork and descriptions and titles from your PC with your Jtag connected to your home Network and running Freestyle Dash.

To access the webserver, firstly ensure that it is enabled in Freestyle Dash's settings on your Jtag, then in your webrowser's address bar, enter your Jtag's IP address, if you don't know it, you can find it on the dashboard by clicking the right thumbstick to enable the statusbar and looking in the lower left hand corner.

It should look something like this: 192.168.1.113
then enter the username: fsdhttp
and the password: fsdhttp
unless you changed the default username and password of course.

It will then load the webserver's interface, you'll notice lots of cool options, and you should definitely get to know it, it is a very useful tool. Anyway we're going to add some custom artwork.

Go to the tab labeled Game Lists and click on Homebrew. The next page will populate a list of your homebrew installed apps. This is where I placed my apps such as XeXMenu and XM360. Now to change the art you simply click on the name of the app or game you want to add art for, then on the next page you will be able to browse your computer for images to add for the icon, banner, cover, background, and even screenshots. You can also edit the items description and name as it appears in your game list. Once you have selected the images just make sure to scroll to the bottom and hit save details. The artwork will upload in a few seconds, and immediately show in the menu on your Jtag.

And that's it, now have fun replacing the missing artwork or even replacing some of the more boring ones.

I only made images for the apps and emulators that I use, so feel free to make your own and share them or ask nicely and I will make more or perhaps someone with more graphic skill will volunteer. I just used paint in windows to make these images. Its very easy to do.

How to Install/Configure Disk Swapper Plugin-
This is a plugin for the latest Dashlaunch 2.08 that will swap discs for you automatically on multi-disc games. In order to use this, you must have Dashlaunch 2.08 installed. If you need to do so, please follow This
tutorial in order to install/configure Dashlaunch 2.08. I am going to show you how to set this up on your internal (attached) hard drive, so you must have one to follow this tutorial properly.

1: Grab the Disk Swapper Plugin package [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] . I have included all of the original files as well as a verified working example multi.ini and a verified working example launch.ini.

2: Open the multi.ini included in the package or the example multi.ini (recommended) and add the Title ID (this can be found using FSD's built in Http webserver) and paths to your multi-disc games. I have included a working example multi.ini in the package that you can use for reference, or you may simply modify it to include your own multi-disc game title IDs and paths, then re-name it "multi.ini" without the quotations. Don't forget to save your changes. After it is setup, your new multi.ini should look something like this:

If you are setting up multi-disc games that have been extracted from ISOs rather than converted to GOD format, rather than pointing the multi.ini to the CON file like the included example and screenshot, you simply add a \ to the end of the game path and it will automatically search that path for the games default.xex. So an example of the setup/path for an extracted game would be:

[4b4e0809]
;Castlevania Lords Of Shadow
disk1 = Hdd:\360 Games\Castlevania Lords Of Shadow\Disc 1\
disk2 = Hdd:\360 Games\Castlevania Lords Of Shadow\Disc 2\

assuming the default.xex is in the Disc 1,2 folder etc.

3: Copy your launch.ini from your Jtag to your PC using a flash drive, external hard drive, or FTP make a backup of the launch.ini in case you need to start over or restore it later.

4: Open your launch.ini and add this line:
"[Plugins]
plugin1 = Hdd:\swap.xex"
I suggest you copy the line inside the quotations and paste it into your launch.ini as this plugin is extremely case sensitive and uses Hdd and Usb rather than Hdd1 or Usb0 etc. Don't forget to save your changes. Once the line is added your new launch.ini should look something like this:

5: Copy your multi.ini, launch.ini, and swap.xex to a flash drive or external drive, or launch your FTP program now. Place all three of these files on the root of your hard drive, overwriting your old launch.ini.

6: Thats it, if done properly and there are no misspelled paths, or case sensitive errors (if you manually added the plugins line to your launch.ini) then it should work now. If it does not, some people have reported that running the Dashlaunch 2.08 installer again made it work. I personally did not need to do this, but there are other forums where I saw this discussed.

Hope you enjoyed my tutorial and if you have any feedback or suggestions feel free to post comments here

The FSD cover project-
All credit goes to Team FSD and Neil.

More covers - [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
Few notes for those speculating/curious:

1) Video is real time, and runs same speed on JTAG
2) Core coverflow code is based around wiiflow 1.1 (credit will be given where due when complete). It has been strongly adapted to the xbox360 platform, including xui, and direct x
3) Skin is based around Ellipsis from XBMC and Team Blackbolt- we have permission from EqUiNoX to base it around this ( EqUiNoX is an ex-member of Team Blackbolt and a current member of Team FSD)
4) Music was done by Blackwolf from #freestyledash
5) Not a skin for FSD2.0, its also not a future update for FSD2.0- it does contain the FSD backbone- but separate for now. Currently, we are trying to get community participation in building a cover library similar to that of wiitdb.com
6) No release date- and its not close to ready- our intent is to show you what's coming so we as a whole have drive to build the cover database.

Freestyle dash downloads-
Rc 1.2-

As promised with the release of FSD 2.0 RC1.0/1.1, Team FSD will now be releasing W.I.P. builds of FreeStyle Dash v2.0, the alternative dashboard for homebrew/JTAG 360s, more regularly.

Today they released RC1.2 (Rev 1927), available as independent download or if you have FSD2 Alpha/RC1.1 you can use the build-in updater.

There's no changelog included, but there are probably lots of fixes since its first public release earlier this month. The Team FSD website is currently being moved to a new webserver, but you can always reach the team on #FreeStyleDash on EFnet.

Part 2:

Video descriptions:
Quote:
Note: Whenever I say slash, I mean backslash.
Note2: You can add roms to an external hard drive or flash drive as long as you put the roms in the correct directory.

Directory for Hdd:
Snes = hdd:\Emus\Snes360\roms
GenesisPlus = hdd:\Emus\genesis360\roms
Mame = hdd:\Emus\mame\roms (Make sure you change the option file like I show you in Part 2)

Directory for USB Storage Device:
Snes = usb:\_Emus\Snes360\roms (You MUST have the _)
GenesisPlus = usb:\_Emus\genesis360\roms (You MUST have the _)
Mame = USB:\Emus\mame\roms (Make sure you change the option file like I show you in Part 2)

Note: The whole part where he talks about renaming the ROMs so that they can run is unneeded. You can do it if you want, but you don't have to because most games will fit under the character limit. If you think the ROM name goes over the character limit, then you can rename it. It doesn't really matter though.
