Synopsis;
TimeSplitters is a first-person shooter stripped down to its most basic elements. Rather than worry about things like plot or a cohesive single-player game, TimeSplitters focuses on its extremely strong multiplayer elements and delivers a first-person shooter that is as addictive as any other console-based FPS.

Game information;

Date of release: 26th October 2000
Developers: Free Radical Design (Now known as Crytek UK)
Publishers: Eidos
Platforms: Playstation 2
Genre: First Person Shooter
Players: 1-2 (2-4 with the 'Multitap' add-on)
Age rating: 15+
Rating: IGN's rating - 8.6/10
My rating - 10/10

Setting;

The setting of Timesplitters is based around 9 different fictional time periods between 1935 and 2035, the story follows the 18 characters individual attempts at defeating their own personal foes and the 'TimeSplitters' with whom they have sided. In each level, the player can choose from one of two characters specific to each mission which is related to whom the character is based on, and must kill enemies as they move through the level to retrieve the mission objective and then carry that object to the exit portal. After a player picks up the mission object, TimeSplitters spawn endlessly throughout the level and tend to attack the player in large groups until they reach the exit portal.

Graphics;

Well we all know Playstation 2 graphics aren't all that good but i think for a game of this caliber where a lot tends to go on within one game they are fairly good, all the characters have distinctive facial features, the guns look real enough so i'm not complaining.

My rating on graphics will be 8/10.

Challenge Mode;

This is a great mode to do once the story has been completed as you can earn more characters after the main ones have been unlocked, besides unlocking characters some of the challenges can be quite fun and challenging to do, take killing fleeing carcasses on fire with a sniper rifle within a small time limit.

Game modes;

In this mode up to four players and ten bots that can compete individually, or in up to four different teams in certain game modes. The players can set choose from characters, levels, and weapons that have been unlocked by completing story mode and challenge mode missions.

The modes are the following:
Deathmatch - The player or team with the highest score based on kills and/or deaths wins.

Bag Tag - The player or team that has possession of the bag for the longest total time during the match wins.

Capture the Bag - Players must retrieve the enemy teams' bag(s) and return them to their own base to score points.

Knockout - Players compete to collect objects in the level and return them to their own team's base.

Escort - A team attempts to protect a bot as it tries to walk to a destination in the level.

Last Stand - Players attempt to protect key destructible objects (including themselves) from the attacking bots for as long as possible.

Assault - One team must defend a base from an assaulting team. The 'base' consists of one or more points which must be captured by the opposing team. The defending team often gets gun turrets to help them defend their base which get really annoying. The offensive team usually starts with access to better guns.

Mapmaker;
One of the best features about this game is Mapmaking, there's a variety of objects and structures to choose from to make it either an endless spree of explosions or a cess pit of hell with the ability to customize every single section of the map whether its the lighting, spawning or equipment.

Controls;
The controls are fairly easy to adapt to, some may struggle to use dual wield weapons, although the game doesn't have noticeable recoil it can still be a pain when your on the run whilst gunning. Sniping in the game isn't as complex as you think you can't really do much besides aim in and shoot which brings you back to the original way of shooting without this such 'quickscoping' which is a good change.
