Synopsis
League of Legends is a game of real-time strategy combat, meant to be played online by human competitors. Through a point-and-click interface, players focus on controlling powerful hero characters, who gain strength and new abilities by earning experience in fast-paced battle, against both computer controlled monsters and one another. The game plays like a character-driven RTS, in the explore-and-destroy spirit of Battle Realms, or the hero-centric levels of WarCraft III or Empire Earth, without the resource gathering or base management as in traditional online strategy. Players take the roles of godlike summoners, who can call and control mighty warriors and monsters in supernaturally powered battle arenas. They choose from more than three dozen hero characters, all inspired by legends and archetypes taken from myth and speculative fiction.

General
League of legends is an MMO game that allows the player to play as many different characters, also referred to as 'Champions'. League of legends has the feel of a couple of other games. For one, Warcraft bares huge similarities to League of legends. The HUD looks a bit like Warcraft, and some of the gameplay is similar. This was also stated in the Synopsis, but i wanted my own words to be stated as well.

People tend to say that League of legends has a World of Warcraft feeling and is exactly like it. In my opinion, and most of the other players opinions, It has no similarities in any way to WoW.

Gameplay
League of legends is an Online MMO game. LoL consists of two different game types for players that enjoy the slow paced games, or fast paced with a lot of actions. The game modes will be explained next. :]

Classic Game Mode
The league of legends game mod "Classic" was the only game mode for a very long time. Classic involves a lot of team strategy & skill to be successful in. In Classic, there are three "lanes" on the map. Lanes are basically paths that you can go on and face other players on. Each lane has an Inner Turret, and an Outer turret. Upon arriving at the enemies spawn, There is a third turret. Before i get into what turrets are and their roles in the game are, I'm going to explain a tiny bit more about the Classic game mode. At the start of classic, You will be grated 1 skill upgrade point. Skill points can be used to learn your abilities. The actions of abilities vary from champion. Each champion has 4 abilities and two summoner spells. Most of the summoner spells won't do damage to other champions, but can have effect. For example, The "Flash" spell allows you to teleport out of rage from enemies.

After you spawn and choose your ability, you will also be able to buy your first item. Upon starting each match, you will be given 475 gold. Gold can be acquired from killing minions or defeating other champions. There are also other ways, but i will get into that later.

The objective of the Classic game mode is to successfully get into the enemies base by defeating turrets that guard the base, and waves and waves of minions, Then destroy the enemy Nexus. While killing minions, keep in mind that you will have a champion or two defending their turrets and base. Next, I will explain what minions do in Classic game modes.

Minions
Although minions are tiny and don't do much damage, They play a huge role in League of legends. Minions spawn in waves. Exactly 90 seconds after the game starts, the minions will spawn. Each minion wave, 6 minions will spawn for each lane. Three of the minions will be Mages, and the others will be fighters will swords and shields. After the game time increases, more minions will spawn per wave, per lane. Minions fight against other minions and also help fight against champions and turrets. Upon killing a minion, you will receive up to 30 gold. After saving up a certain amount of gold, you are able to purchase an item that will increase your champions stats for the game. After successfully destroying an enemy inhibitor, you will start spawning super minions. Super minions do an increased amount of damage and will have more health, and even some armor.

Buffs/Gollems
In the classic game mode, you are able to kill monsters in the jungle to receive additional buffs for a certain amount of time. There are a couple of different buffs. Blue Buff, Red Buff, And Baron Buff. Blue buffs will increase your mana regeneration and give a significant amount of mana. Mana is used for mages when they cast spells and what not.

Red buff grants you additional damage, and will also do damage to your enemies over time. Of course, you'll have to attack your enemy for damage to be dealt.

Baron buff is that most difficult to achieve. You and your teammates will have to successfully slay "Baron Nashor". Baron is a huge dragon will many eyes that lives in the jungle on summoners rift. Baron's Buff will increase all your stats for a certain amount of time. Be sure to have teammates and a ward or two down if you're going to attempt to kill him.

Turrets & Inhibitors

Turrets are pretty self explanatory. If you walk in front of them, they will shoot you and do significant damage to you and your teammates. In order to destroy a turret, you'll have to bypass the other teams champions and waves of minions. Each lane has four turrets. Two for each of the team. Upon reaching the teams base, you'll be greeted by another turret that will be guarding one of three inhibitors. By destroying an Inhibitor, you'll start spawning Super minions that will make the rest of the game a lot easier. After you get passed inhibitors and the turrets guarding them, there will be two more turrets guarding the nexus. After destroying the Nexus, your team wins.

Dominion Game Mode
Dominion is League of legends' other game mode. Dominion is a fast paced game mode that will only last up to 25 minutes. In dominion your team will battle against the other team to capture and hold 5 points around the map. By holding the points, you will take health off the enemies nexus.

At the start of Dominion, you will have 1,375 Gold, and 3 skill points. Thus making the game more fun at the start, and more fast paced. 90 seconds after the game starts, you'll be released from your spawn to start battling over the five points. At most starts, each team will easily grab two points each. The hardest one is the Wind Mill, which is at the top middle of the map. Most of the time, 4 of each teams players will go there after one of the four caps the middle capture points. By taking capture of a point, you will subtract health from the enemies nexus. On top of that, each kill will take off enemies health. Hold the points longer, to take more and more health off. After a team takes the 500 health off the other teams Nexus, they win.

Minions - Dominion
The minions in dominion have similar roles as to Classic. In dominion, Minions are able to cap and defend points. They aren't able to do it nearly as fast as champions, but they help the process. Minions will spawn from each point you have captured. On top of that, More minions will spawn, and spawn faster, the more points you have captured.

Buffs - Dominion

In dominion, there are less buffs than Classic, but they are different. There are 4 speed buffs around the map that will boost your speed and allow you to move faster to other points, for a certain amount of time. There are also Health Buffs. That will give you a tiny bit of health. Health buffs can be found at each of the cap points, and in between one another. On top of both of those Buffs, there is one more Buff for each of the teams. Each Buff is located in the center of the map. Each team is only allowed to have one throughout the whole game.

Levels & Ranks
The levels in League of legends are a bit confusing. For each game, you will start at level 1. After killing minions/champs, you will rank up. Upon ranking up, you receive another Skill point to put into learning your abilities. Each game, the level cap is 18. So once you're at 18, there's no going higher. After completing a game, you'll earn exp. The exp after the game goes towards your actual rank. You are able to rank up to level 30. Reaching level 30 won't be easy, so don't be discouraged by it's low level. Upon reaching level 30, you are able to play in ranked games. Ranked games are way more challenging and will give you more out of game stats.

IP & RP
Influence Points(IP), is the in-game currency for League of legends. With IP, you're able to buy the champions you know and love, and also runes. Runes will be explained in a tiny bit. You earn IP by playing games. Classic gives you more IP than dominion, but dominion games are a lot faster than Classic.
Riot Points(RP), is another in-game currency. With Riot Points, you are able to purchase Champions, boosts for experience and influence points, and even champion packages. You're also able to purchase champion skins, so you can stand out from the other players.

Runes & Masteries
Runes and Masteries increase your characters stats. In order to get Runes & Masteries, you have to level up. There are three sets of runes, and three categories of masteries. From level 0-10 you have the first set of runes. Then level 10-20 you have the second set. Same with 20-30, the third set. Each rune has to be purchased with IP. The better the runes are, the more IP they will cost. So start saving!

For Masteries, you have to level up for each mastery you want. In total, you are able to have 30 masteries. You are able to skill any of the things in any Category of Masteries at any level.

Champions
Champions are the characters you play as. Each champion has their own 4 abilities or "Spells", and they have their own level of difficulty. Some champions are assassins, some are able to take a lot of damage, and some play support to help other champions in battle. If you're a start, you should try a champion that is 450 IP. The more expensive the champion, the harder they are to play, but they can also be better.

Every week Riot chooses a couple of champions to play for free. So it's not always going to be your favorite champion. That's why i suggest trying out a couple of the free champions, then saving up for him/her while you play. You can also purchase RP and buy a champion.

Graphics & Controls

Graphics
Well, i can't say much about the graphics. It's an MMO game, so you should know what to expect. You can't compare them to any other game that is big because they are nothing alike. The game looks amazing overall though and I'm sure anyone else would like it. If you are still curious as to what it looks like, you can google or youtube gameplay or pictures of the in-game looks.

Controls
The controls are pretty basic. To move you right click where you want to go. To attack, you right click on the person. You are able to bind controls to anything you'd like, so i wouldn't entirely worry about them. Your 4 basic abilities are binded to "Q,W,E, and R". Your two summoner spells are binded with "D" and "F". Once again, you are able to change them at anytime.

My Opinion & Rating
Well, i haven't been playing League of legends for that long, but i am very fond of it and enjoy every second i spend playing it. It is a game that actually requires skill, so you won't become good at it the first day you play. You can always play with people your own at your own skill level because the system matches you depending on how you've recently played. They have a wide variety of champions for players that aren't entirely good, and for the players with major skill. They also offer a Co-op vs AI for players that aren't the best and that need some practice. I highly suggest you download the game. Anyone can download it for free.
