Synopsis (Halo Nation)

Halo 2 Vista is a ported PC version of Halo 2 by Hired Gun for use on the Windows Vista operating system exclusively and as a release title for the "Games for Windows" category. The release date was originally planned for May 8, 2007. However, the release date had been delayed to May 22, 2007 because the team needed "to make some improvements to the install experience and address other technical issues." However, release dates had been erratic, as Australia had publicly available copies, and some stores in the United States were selling copies as well. Microsoft had stated that the release date had been pushed back one final time, due to partial nudity found in the Halo 2 Vista Map Editing Kit, making the release date May 31st for the United States

LIVE Multiplayer

The LIVE Multiplayer is fun and there aren't a lot of people playing, but there's enough to get yourself into a Game. I recommend you either have a Wireless Receiver for "Games for Windows LIVE" or a Wired Controller. The keyboard isn't the easiest thing to use while your playing since it get's in the way of somethings unless you are really good at using a Keyboard.
(And No, the Play and Charge kit won't work as a Controller) Right now as I'm writing this there are 70 people in Multiplayer. As written from a fellow member at Bungie.net, it's never passed 100 Members. Here's his message from a FAQ:
"How is the population for Halo 2 Vista?
Small. As of late 2008, the player count has never broken 100 at any given time."

As you could tell there aren't many people playing it, but it's fun, especially driving a Banshee with a Keyboard since it's pretty easy and you could get a lot of kills. With an update for GFWL (Games for Windows LIVE) Voice chat is no longer supported.

Achievements

Ah, our Wonderful Achievements!
If you didn't know, you could earn Achievements! Which is one of the main reasons why I bought the game! Trust me, they are easy to get! With a Tutorial someone showed me, you could all the Halo 2 Campaign Achievements! (Worth 600+ Gamerscore) and it only takes a few minutes!

As for Online, it wouldn't be that hard, if you have a XBL Buddy or someone to help you get them. Since the population is slow someone probably won't join you game making it easier for you to get Achievements. My 1 Day Progress of buying Halo 2 Vista :

See? Not that hard! (Excuse that message, it's intended to be a joke)

System Requirements

Here are the System Requirements I found, just to let you know, I'm using Windows 7 and it seems to be working out Perfect! No errors so far!

  • Requires Windows Vista or 7
  • 2GHz Pentium 4 Class Processor (or x64)
  • 1GB of RAM
  • 7GB of hard drive space(the Dedicated Server and Map Editor require additional hard drive space)
  • Nvidia 6100/ATI x700 video card or above
  • DVD-ROM drive
  • DirectX 9.0c or later (included on the DVD)
  • Broadband Internet access for Windows LIVE multiplayer gameplay

Gameplay

Hm, the Gameplay!
It is like Halo 2 on the Xbox, but with PC. As I wrote up above, I highly recommend you have a Wired Controller or a [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] !
It's a bit challenging since you have to play with a Keyboard, and your pressing all these keys to do different things. Moving is really easy since you could just use the Arrows as well as shooting and aiming, but doing different things as in changing your weapons, swapping weapons, jumping, and so on. I myself need to get a Gaming receiver or a Wired controller since its hard playing with a Keyboard. Plus, if you have a Wired controller, you could do some old H2 Glitches easier (BxR).
Overall, I like the Gameplay. I just need to get myself a Controller!
(Oh and, if you've never completed the Halo 2 Campaign, you could do the Tutorial I posted above, and just go to the last mission.. Pretty cool!)

Overall Score - 7.6/10

It needs some work, they should have made the Graphics at least a tiny bit better since it was made 3 years after the Original game had released!
