Synopsis

Set in an alternate history in which famed British leader Winston Churchill dies in a 1931 car accident and the United States never enters WWII, Turning Point: Fall of Liberty tells the story of the subsequent world dominance by the Axis Powers. The game begins with the surprise invasion of New York, as fighter jets streak through the clouds, massive battleships converge on the harbor, thousands of paratroopers and hulking tanks pepper the Manhattan skyline, and giant zeppelins the size of aircraft carriers blot out the sun. Players take on the role of Dan Carson, a blue-collar New York construction worker-turned resistance fighter, as he traverses girders and battles paratroopers in an attempt to escape the shell of an incomplete skyscraper now crumbling from the German assault. With no gun to defend himself, Carson must use brute strength and take advantage of the elevated environment to fend of the Nazi attackers and reach the ground before the building collapses.

Gameplay

Now the gameplay in this game to be honest really sucks. I remember downloading the demo a couple of weeks before it's release and I found it to be terrible. There was no enjoyment in it and the storyline was really confusing at times. Later on when they game was released, I decided to buy it and see if the full game alterations were any better. They weren't. In the campaign you play as a person that tries to take down Nazi invaders from fully taking over New York City. The whole storyline poses a What If question. What if the Nazis invaded America and how would it be portrayed through a video game. The gameplay is pretty mediocre and there is nothing amazing or fun about it to be honest. There are guns in the game, some may be recognised from other first person shooters however nothing amazing that will deal quite a bit of damage to your enemies. There are various puzzles in the game that get in your way from progressing however these are pretty straightforward. However, sometimes they aren't and leave you walking around in circles for a couple of minutes. This does get boring and repetitive and occasionally your objective for the mission doesn't even come up on your pause screen. This can leave gamers frustrated and annoyed as they don't know what to do next. Enemy nazis in the game are fairly easy to take down however if you're surrounding by a lot of them then you might find yourself being mowed down in seconds. Try to be witty and plan what to do as you progress through the campaign. Your team-mates are pretty stupid and you will find that they don't really help at all. They will shoot a couple of bullets and die straight away which frustrating if there is a whole army in front of you. The game also has multiplayer compatibility however this is nothing special. It has the similar maps and guns from the campaign but you're just playing against other people from across the globe.

Graphics

Graphics in Turning Point are pretty bad. Most objects and nazi enemies are pretty blurry and it can be quite a challenge to see them from a far. The environments that you play in include, Washington D.C, New York City and even London. These are designed quite decently however I did not know I was playing in them environments until the game suggested so. It would have been nice to see some landmarks or something similar to symbolise the environments that I was in. The buildings in the game were okay and they were textured well. They portrayed them well as they're in a war zone a lot of the streets and building are in tattered ruins which does give the player that war atmosphere that it's trying to put across. Guns in the game look decent and effects such as gunfire and smoke grenades look quite good and they respond well. The sky doesn't look realistic enough as the sun is shining and you can see it illuminating the battlefield but you can't see the sun anywhere which I thought was silly and there was no point including it. Your health bar and ammunition are in the corners and they look decent again because they're visible. Your flashlight and night vision goggles in the game do their job and that's it.. Nothing special in the graphics portion in this game and it seems as if the developers of this game didn't put a lot of effort into making it look like a good game.

Overall, this game really sucks. Campaign isn't realistic and seems as if it's an alter universe and the campaign isn't thorough enough. Multiplayer is boring and poses no real addiction factor like other first person shooters. You can buy the game for quite cheap now and that is what it deserves as it's not a thrilling game.

Game Rating : 3/10 (Campaign isn't thorough, graphics are way too underdeveloped, controls are easy to learn and the game has multiplayer which is a bonus but it's nothing spectacular)
