Synopsis

Designed to present grown-up gamers with a well-rounded cowboy adventure, Gun tells a classic Western story of revenge and rugged individualism, with the player in the starring role. Colton White was robbed of his heritage by a lifetime of lies; now he aims to take charge of his destiny and become his own man. The game's open-ended mission structure and expansive environments allow players to explore the frontier as they choose. Missions offer a variety of gameplay styles, including stealth action, precision shooting, and horseback riding. Players can develop Colton White to be an upstanding, classic hero, who protects the innocent and follows a code of righteousness, or a vengeful loner, who best serves the frontier community by serving himself first. The game's story progresses through a series of major missions, but many side-quests allow the hero to develop skills and earn scratch. Money and other crucial resources can be gained by collecting bounties, winning at the poker table, or by less civically upstanding means.

Gameplay

This game was pretty fun when I purchased it for my Playstation 2 back in the day. It was really enjoyable running around as a cowboy, shooting people and winning poker. I loved the game so much that when I finally got my Xbox 360 I wanted to buy this game as soon as possible. So I did. Not much had changed, buttons were the same, had the same missions and side quests. Although I loved this game, doing the campaign and remembering what missions came after what it really lowered the excitement factor for me. The storyline is quite appealing, you're on the river with your father and he gets killed by some native people so your quest basically is to avenge his death in any means necessary. You can make money to buy better weapons or you can take the straight from some dead bad guy's hand that you just brutally murdered. You don't' have to complete the campaign right off the bat, you can partake in loads of side missions that might give you information on where to go looking next for your father's killers. Guns and arsenal are really basic in GUN. Pistols, rifles, shotguns and arrows. These are quite fun to use but it can be a pain trying to find ammunition for them in a massive barren wasteland so you might need to be conservative with your rounds. If you do run out of ammo, you can use melee weapons. Knives, swords, daggers are just a few. You can cause huge amounts of damage with these. But using Molotov cocktails and dynamite is just a better story. Surrounded by loads of enemies or bandits, throw some dynamite and watch their limbs scatter all over the place. This is somewhat adrenaline rushing for the player let alone highly enjoyable.

Graphics

Graphics in GUN are really underdeveloped. This game did come out quite a while back so I guess I shouldn't expect much from it. Some characters are well textured and their facial features are clearly visible and lit up. Things such as shooting gun powder will send nearby debris flying into the skies which in my opinion looks great. Explosions with Dynamite, Mototovs and Rockets are pretty satisfying when you take out a huge bunch of bad guys. The environments that you run around are vast and pretty huge in my opinion. The landscape of it all seems pretty good and the sunset's horizon also seems developed. It definitely gives off the atmosphere that it's getting dark and you might need somewhere to rest. Cut-scenes working really well in this game as they are clear and definitive on what you need to do and where you need to go when it ends. Some stuff in the cut-scenes are pretty unnecessary and you would be able to do it yourself really quickly to ease the time. The HUD in the bottom right corner looks good and it's clear so you can see objectives, missions and side missions to aid you in the game. Pressing pause will show you the whole country map which looks pretty good and you can apply cursors to your map if you ever forget your way back or something. In the bottom left hand corner, you have your weapon and how much ammunition you have. Although this looks pretty gimmicky and cartoony it is clearly visible what equipment and ammo you have.

Overall this game is pretty enjoyable as you run around collecting money and killing bandits. Graphics portion is decent and seem undeveloped but the release date of the game is the reason why, multiplayer is boring and poses no real addiction factor and frame rate sometimes drops but this isn't game changing.

Game Rating: 5/10 (Campaign is thorough and can be completed in 10hours, graphics are underdeveloped and multiplayer aspect isn't enjoyable. I wouldn't recommend this game to others, I would just suggest that they purchase Red Dead Redemption instead to be honest)
