I've been designing logos for a while, my advice would be to experiment using different tools and stuck to basic shapes or text style logos. That way you learn how to use these tools & knowledge on fonts/shapes tools.

For tutorials I'd go check out my sticky in the graphics section I believe I've put up a few!

Good luck buddy!

Yeah I've already made text logos over & over, I actually wanted to try making real ones. I'll check it out though, thanks.

There are all kinds of logos,
logos are just a piece of art to make a company more identifiable.

You can use any program you want
there aren't any rules for logo making.

Anyways I'm assuming you are going with the trend

You will need to learn how to use the pathfinder tools
and how to use all the shapes. (there are hidden features)

here is a good tutorial to get you started.
Enjoy.

You should instead be looking for books and tutorials on branding, and logo designing. While doing that, you should look for tutorials on how to use Adobe Illustrator on sites like Lynda, or DigitalTutors (which I highly recommend). It'll be beneficial to have a solid understanding of both, before looking for a tutorial that combines them.

I don't watch a lot of speed art/tutorials anymore, with the exception of this guy.

I really encourage you to check him out. He has quite a few videos on logos in illustrator as well as sketching them on paper.

Speed arts do not help with learning a program.
If anything they help with creativity, or to pass time.

I wouldn't say that they do not help you learn a program. Once you get comfortable with a program you'd be surprised how many techniques and uses for something like Photoshop by watching speed arts. This holds true for me at least. Everyone is different and learns different ways! The guy I recommended doesn't do speed arts either.
