Not sure if anyone has read or not, but it turns out that after 75 years of Captain America comics, it has been revealed Cap has been a hydra agent this whole time. Here's a link if you want to read an article about it.

This has left me pretty shocked that they would do something like this. What do you guys think?

While I don't think this is something that will stick around for long, I think it is interesting. Sometimes heroes become villains, sometimes villains become heroes. It is kind of like pro wrestling with that. I mean, even Superman has had his evil moments. Those are some of my favorite stories.

But it's Captain America.. Of all superheros it just seems silly to give Cap a twist like this.

He is one of the last people you'd expect to be a villain, which makes it an excellent choice. An artist on Twitter made an awesome picture as well for it: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

I disagree. It's just flat out disrespectful, especially after considering his roots.

Was it disrespectful for Bucky to be a villain since he has a similar background? Was it disrespectful for Superman to be evil due to how he used to be a heroic symbol of America (during WW2) just like Captain America? Is this just because his hero name has "America" in it?

A far as I am concerned, none of these heroes are off limits. The characters are meant to have flaws. They are usually human or human-like. Having them become evil in certain story lines makes a ton of sense. I mean, I would like to understand how CA is evil even after his battles with Red Skull and the rest of Hydra, but the idea is not a terrible one. I feel bad for the writer(s) though. I bet they are getting a ton of heat and probably death threats over it. It's crazy the type of reaction a drawing and story of fictional characters can get.

It's disrespectful to the readers and to the original creators of Captain America. The creators never visioned making Captain America the equivalent of a Nazi. I feel this story line is off limits to something like that.

It is pretty crazy how heated some of the reactions they get. For some people, Captain America is bigger then just a little fictional story. I've never been too into comics/superheros but I can see how someone who is such a huge fan would really be upset over the direction they are taking things. I barely follow the marvel scene and yet I'm appalled.

There was an issue published in the 60's where Captain America busted through the door and entered the room of Red Skull and Hitler, Hitler hid behind a chair and the Red Skull said "You have nothing to worry about" then Rodgers saluted Hitler. and said Hail Hydra. That issue was made by Jack Kirby AND Stan Lee. I'll update if I find the panel. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

No character should be off limited to go rouge. Dont worry though, it'll get retconned in a month or two and it'll never happen again probably. And its sad though. I would love to see more about Steve Rodgers Agent of Hydra.

When Captain America saluted Hitler it was all due to mind control. That is different.

I think it's great how they did this. They made an all out patriotic superhero then decided to change him into a hydra agent.imo I think it will spice things up.
