Same as Xiggy, pirated American Truck Sim because £14 (steam, got it for £10.74 on CDKeys) is a lot of money for essentially the same game as Euro Truck Sim.
The last time I pirated a game was Metro 2033/Last Light, which I played through once on each and proceeded to buy the Redux versions.
9 times out of 10 if i torrent it and enjoy it, i'll buy it. If i torrent it and the game is utter trash (such as spin tires and a few others i have tried) then it gets deleted and un-installed.

With the "can't you read?" argument with the system requirements is that some are vague
where minimum requirements allow for everything low at what frame-rate? and recommended allows for 4K? 1080p? People like to play at different settings, I for one am fine with toning down a few settings to get a playable frame rate, but there are some people who uninstall when they get 59 FPS rather than the 60 that they want.
Pirating the game before hand allows one to see what settings they can play on and what sort of frames they can get.

and with the "I want to try the game before I buy it" argument with steam refunds now active you can just buy it and if you don't like it just refund it

Steam's System only allows you to play for 2 hours of play time before you are ineligible for a refund, and there are some games that you have to play more than 2 hours to enjoy, and there may take some time getting settings right and initial set-up.

I see nothing wrong with piracy and games to an extent. I've done it multiple times before and I'll do it again. I done the same as Xiggy and others here. Torrented American Truck Sim to play it before it came out but regardless I was going to buy it and I did. You can't play online with a torrented version of that game.

For games that have multiplayer, I'll always end up buying because 9/10 times people don't set up cracked/unofficial servers on games nowadays apart from Cod 4, WaW and MW2. It's more single player games that I tend to torrent first to see what I think of a game. There's only so much insight you can get from a YouTube video at the end of the day. I did this with Alien Isolation, I played through half the game I torrented and then proceeded to buy it later because I thought it was a great game and deserved the money. This was also the same with Dying Light. I torrented that and both me and a friend played co-op through tunggle and completed it but I still bought it later and played through it again with other people.

The one thing that does look intriguing is Denuvo. More game developers and publishers are adopting Denuvo DRM and this will be a big problem to people that torrent games. Only a select few games with Denuvo DRM have actually been cracked, the rest are taking ages to crack. If all future games were to utilize Denuvo then I doubt we would be seeing cracked games as soon as we do for newer titles in the future.

And what about those that don't have the funds for a game when it comes out and still want to play it? To get a refund through steam, you have to pay Steam's full price for a game which is expensive compared to 3rd party re-sellers like G2A and CDKeys. Some people don't have £39.99 or £45.99 to spend when a game comes out so why should that stop them from being able to play the game until they do get the funds for the game?

TL:DR I see nothing wrong torrenting a game as long as it's for the purpose of trying before you buy or testing the game out on your system first and then buying the game later.

I support piracy. Many of my single player games are torrented. Games like Skyrim, Fallout, etc have zero online capabilities, so paying for them is idiotic. There is no differentiating gaming experience either way. MMO's have always been a big part of my gaming lifestyle and those on the other hand should be bought. It's just not the same experience or atmosphere unless you have that authentic ass-end of the game to work out bugs, provide updates, etc.

Overall though, I do support piracy.

How is paying for singleplayer games idiotic? That makes no sense since a fair portion of the market is singleplayer.

It makes perfect sense if you actually think about it. I'm going to use World of Warcraft as a good example. WoW being the multiplayer game it is, you can get a hacked version of it and play under the radar on a 3rd party server, but why would you? The game will obviously be much, much better with the support and backend of the servers operated by Blizzard.

Now, compare that to a Bethesda game such as Skyrim. It's just, a game. There is no multiplayer or online connectivity whatsoever. You get what you get regardless of how you acquired the game. It's the same overall experience either way. Paying for it would be a waste of money.

Not really, if I want to pay for a game such as skyrim then who are you to determine if that is a waste of money? I pay for my music when I can easily obtain it for free, is that a waste of money too? Going to use a better game as an example but elder scrolls oblivion. I buy elder scrolls oblivion because I like the game and I like Bethesda. I dont really play MMO's or PvP styled games so singleplayer is my preferred genre.

I still dont see how buying a singleplayer game is a waste of money, just because you dont see light in the genre doesnt mean its s waste of money.

Genre has nothing to do with it. It's a matter of paying for something you can easily obtain for free to get the same experience.

Singleplayer is my favorite genre as well. Oblivion was just a freakin' epic game overall.

Getting it for free, illegally. Apply the same logic to anything else though, it doesnt add up.

Singpleplayer games are usually cheaper anyway I dont see a need in having to torrent it, when I can just pay the amount and get it with no hassle or question.

I sort of SORTA see the idea behind "well if I can get it for free why not" but im not that type of person and never will be. I dont see why being honest and just paying for something you know is good is such a pain. If its a cost thing, then maybe playing video games isnt for you. (not YOU im speaking in general)

Cost isn't necessarily a key factor though. If the game is available somewhere for free, cost will never be an element for some people. Piracy is and always will be a thing. Some of the most avid gamers on Earth are and always will support piracy of their favorite products.
