Okay so recently i started to notice that i'm getting lag spikes in games when really i shouldn't be.

I opened up task manager and it seems every time i get a lag spike, the overall CPU usage will drop to around 10% when its only on about 40 - 60% in the first place. I have also noticed that it says 78% of memory is being used when 2GB is being used by the system and 1GB by the game im playing yet theres hardly anything else open but still a lot of usage is being used according to task manager. I have been monitoring my temps while playing games and my GPU temps stay around 70 to 80, while my CPU stays around 60 to 70 but when these lag spikes happen the temp drops to around 55...

I have no idea whats going on but i think it might be down to thermal throttling or something.

I'll also mention that temps are around 50 at idle.

Specs:
Intel Xeon E3 1230 v3 @ 3.30GHz (Stock Cooler)
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970
8GB DDR3 Ram at 799MHz

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you're playing a game, in task manager set the priority of the games process to above normal.

Have already tried that, didn't really make a difference. Just less frequent lag spikes.
