Im in the same boat. This summer I am gonna dump my paychecks into mods for my mustang. New rims, calipers, tuner, throttle body, plenum, CAI, pulleys, and cams if I can afford them.

If you are gonna spend 30k on a sports car, get a manual. You might as well get a 4 door sedan if you're gonna get an automatic sports car, it will be the same. Think about winter, tires, maintenance etc.

The BRZ and FRS are basically the same car, I'd probably go with the BRZ w/ the blue. To me, it seems like your parents have more money then cents(sense, lol) You can easily get like an 8k-12k car which is probably near new.

Do what you want, but dont be upset when you wreck and they get you a car from 1982 that's a total slug.

If you really don't have a winter - Pick the BRZ or FRS
Winter = WRX or if you are going to hold some passengers then get this.

OR you could take what you get, and not throw a fit, then you can get a job and buy one of those cars.

Good luck.

To me, since it looks like you like imports, look for a 350z maybe? You can find them for 10k.

Plus its much faster.

I will start off by saying get whatever car you want to get.

Now I will throw in some of my thoughts and suggestions.

I really do like the way that the FRS/BRZ/GT86 look. I was planning on buying one before I settled on my 370z. Here is what I think about the FRS. I went to test drive it and I guess test fit it. (I am of the wider variety... FAT You will most likely fit better than me.) It is a very small car. Even if it was wider my head was still 1 bump from a concussion. Anyways when I went for the actual test drive they took me to a test track(not a race track, just a few turns and no other vehicles). I knew that the FRS was not very quick. Even going into the drive with that mindset I was still very underwhelmed. The entire time I was just thinking that my piece of junk 2001 Grand Am would beat this in a race. I still do like the FRS visually but that is about it.

Onto some suggestions.
1.(Obviously) Nissan 370z: I picked up a 2010 370z about a month ago. I have always liked the Zs. I ended up getting the base model with 10k miles (Garage kept) for just under $20k. Car is pretty much a brand new 2010. Now in your case you could find a higher trim so that you get the Sport Brakes and the Limited Slip Differential (I bought base with intention on upgrading to a LSD). Anyways, the 370z has plenty of power at 330 hp(~280 TO WHEELS). It handles great and gets pretty good gas mileage. Now for a few negatives. When turning 80% and up at really low speeds the wheel kind of feels jerky. Also the view out of the back is pretty small. My crappy Grand am had the rearview mirror fall out so I have been driving without that for a few years. If you can find a model that has a reverse camera it can make backing up less scary. This car also does not have a backseat. It really isn't a big deal since the FRS has a backseat for people that dont have legs (same with many coupes with a backseat). Depending on where you live you may be required to have a front license plate. I live in Illinois and it is required here. For me it made the car look worse with the front bracket so I just don't use it. I park right across from a police station so I am bound to have an issue eventually. It will probably(Hopefully) just result in a fix-it ticket or a warning. Overall I am enjoying the car.

2. G37/G37x (Coupe/Sedan): Now this is essentially the same car as the 370z. If you were to get this I would recommend getting the G37x(x is for all wheel drive). If it doesnt really snow where you live go ahead and go for the RWD version. The choice on coupe or sedan would be up to you.

3. Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Coupe: This was another car that I was considering and have test driven. The base New is under 30k I believe. The base, like the 370z lacks a Limited Slip Diff and sport brakes. This car is a competitor to the 370z and it feels like it. I test drove this before I even was looking at my 370z but after I test drove the FRS. The interior space was bigger in this than the 370z (I am noting this "because fat" ). On the test drive the we pulled around a corner and the salesman said "Go for it". I did not hesitate to floor it and I was impressed. It sounded good for a stock vehicle. I was looking to get the Ultimate trim level which gives you the LSD, Brembo Brakes, Leather interior sunroof etc. The interior was nice but its about 3-4k more for this over base. For what you are getting it is worth it but it would be up to you. Another thing, people seem to look at the badge and see Hyundai and write them off. This car is faster than my 370z. Barely but it is quicker. It has 348 HP(~300 at wheel I believe). Hyundai also has 10 year 100k mile warranty and you really cant beat that.

There are 3 alternate suggestions for you to contemplate. Like I said earlier get what you want. It's you car not anyone elses.

Also regarding insurance. I am 22, was 21 getting quotes Clean driving record. Here are what I was getting for quotes. I had my mom added as a driver which helped drop the insurance by a bunch. I was also having full coverage with 100k/300k amounts of coverage 2000 collision deductible and 500 comprehensive deductible. You can get cheaper with state minimum but I would not recommend it.

(NEW)2015 Genesis 3.8 Coupe Ultimate Full coverage was $120 per month,
(NEW)2015 Chevy Camaro 2SS was $140 a month,
(USED)2013 Mustang GT was $130 a month,
(NEW)2015 Scion FRS was $114 a month
(USED) 2010 Nissan 370z Base was original $108 a month but has already dropped to $89 a month from additional discounts .

I would say dont rush into buying the vehicle if you are not 100% sure but if you come across a deal like I did for my 370z you may want to pull the trigger ASAP.

Fast an inexperienced don't mix well. If I were you I would not invest a whole lot of money into your first car as there is a very good chance you're going to wreck it.

30k on your first car? Thats absolutely crazy if you ask me. In the UK most people's first cars are 800-3k so around 5k if you are doing that for your first car and you crash with in the year think about how much of a waste that would be... Honestly dude get a cheap run about then once you are comfortable driving for a while then upgrade, you're 16 so around 17 you'll pass I assume you won't want a big car just to maybe ruin it. Sorry but this is true.

My point exactly. I don't know anyone who didn't bump something with their first car.

In the end do whatever it is that makes you happy OP.

And it doesn't even have to be your fault. People will hit you, stupid shit might happen, like last year I had a tire come off my truck while going 45 mph down the road... Stupid crap happens, do you want to see a 5k loss, or a 30k loss?

Yeah there is also a lot of stupid drivers out there as said, which may involve something to do with your 30k car which would be shit in your first year,
