Impassive wrote I am trying to get into GFX but don't know what Program I should use. I have heard of people using Paint.NET and Photoshop but what do you guys use?

There isn't that many programs, I dont why you're asking. It all depends on what you are looking to do. If you want to do avatars and signatures or manipulations, stick with Photoshop. If you want to do professional clean work, go for Adobe illustrator

Actually there are bunches of them but there are more professional ones that people use. All I was asking is for people to reply with what they are using. Most GFX work can be done on any GFX program, but I was just wanting to know what people on here use.

The reason he said it's best to use Illustrator for cleaner (better) work is most likely because he is good at it. I'm not biased so I would agree with you and say many programs can create similar outcomes depending on your skills and knowledge.

I just know Photoshop well enough so I am comfortable using it

I've always been more comfortable with illustrator but im so use to the vector base of illustrator it makes me recommend it because it isn't pixel based. Although it can't do some of the things that Photoshop can

Photoshop = Photo editing
Gimp = Photo editing
Pixlr.com = Photo editing

Sony Vegas = Editing
Premier Pro = Editing
After Effects = Add effects

Illustrator = Vectors
C4D = 3D
Blender = 3D

Those are programs that you might want to try.
They are all hard at first, but like everything else in life
practice makes perfect.

No he said to use illustrator for cleaner work because it's not a pixel based program.
Logos should be done in illustrator, and illustrations and vector designs look way better.

Basically Photoshop is the industry standard when it comes to image editing. Nothing really matches it, though some programs can come close. Learning how to use Photoshop is definitely a useful skill.

If you you're interested in doing work may involve some form of illustrated design, you'll probably want to use Adobe Illustrator.

The difference? Photoshop is raster based meaning everything in photoshop is pixels. When you're dealing with pixels, things become distorted if they're expanded or compressed from their original sizing. Which really makes your work look shitty. Adobe Illustrator is vector based. Simply put, thanks to some mathematical expressions under the hood, you can create work that expands without problem. This is useful for things like logo design, illustrating, etc.

Since you mentioned "GFX," you're probably interested in small 3D work. Cinema4D is your best bet as an introductory 3D software seeing that there's plenty of tutorials using this program on Youtube.

P.S. I recommend while you experiment with your "GFX" phase, you learn some aspects of graphic design on the side. One is a trend that attracts gamers, while the latter is a career that could lead you to (UI/UX designer, game designer, consultant, etc). Just a heads up...
