It goes away. I had them in middle school and the pain goes away after about a week if I remember correctly. Trust me, it's worth it so you'll have some bomb ass teeth for the rest of your life. Stick with soft food.

I have had braces. Everyone said that when they had their braces, the pain lasted 2-3 days. Lucky for me, I never had that problem.

I had braces on a quarter of my mouth, experimental n shiz. But the pain lasted max 1 week, whenever they tighten them too it normally takes 2-3 days to get used to it.

You shouldn't be eating anything solid for the first week or two (depending on your pain) and instead be drinking things, or eating soft foods such as soup/noodles, yogurt, watery fruits and vegetables, etc. As for the band that fell off, you'll have to notify your dentist about that next time you go in, or schedule an appointment. Those are what straighten your teeth.

I currently have invisalign, which are removable braces, and I find the same thing happens for the first 2-3 days after being tightened, but after that it gets much better.

I had braces back in Elementary, braces only hurt the first week and when they tighten them.
Other then that, only think you'll see a difference in is a tiny slur.

Like the other guys said, a week or two. Mine had taken over two weeks but I sometimes use pain killers to relieve some of the pain. They look cool though lol, make sure you always brush, 3 times per day if anything because you will get white spots on your teeth.
