The new R9 300 series cards look good, really good, I am thinking of getting a 390. However, I already have a 280x, so my question is, would it be worth it to go for the 390 (which I cannot afford currently) or purchase another 280x and crossfire it?

Well to crossfire the 280x you will need at least a 750watt psu, preferably something above 800watts.

From a benchmark I saw the r9 390x got about 5-8 fps lower than a 980ti on witcher 3 at 4k. So compared to a 980ti price it defiantly has a lot of performance for the value.

So I would probably save and get a 390x, maybe sell your 280x or something lol

Incorrect. You could run 280X crossfire on a quality 650 unit easy.

OP: The 390X is probably the easiest route to take, but if you like a challenge and don't mind added heat. Adding another 280X would be a great option and the cheaper one. Providing you PSU is up to the job.

Already running a 750W bronze PSU. Its not all that, but it gets the job done.
Finding this a bit hard to find, so ill ask here, how much of a difference is there from 390 to 390x? 390x is about $200 more for me(Aus pricing), so just curious.

Not $200 worth of difference anyway. 390 can be overclocked to match stock 390x most likely. 390x is just an 8GB 290x with updated coolers and better DX12 support anyway.

You can even get 290X's with the same VRAM now.

Another pointless attempt at new cards from AMD!
