Ok I downloaded Rust to see how the graphics were going to look.

I set the resolution to 1440p and the graphics to the highest they could go.

And then I'm getting 20 - 30 fps?

What is happening?

Rust is a rather graphically intense game, not sure if they have even optimized it all the way yet. You cant expect to max out all game, especially on 1440p, and get great frames. Can I get a link to your specs?

Edit: Nevermind, just found your specs.

i5 4690k
GTX 980 Ti
Asrock z97 extreme 3
2x4 GB corsair vengeance
Xfx 550w
Nxzt s340 case 1 TB WD HDD
Hyper 212 evo

Yeah, as I already said, Rust is graphically intense. With that rig you don't expect to max out games such as Rust at 1440p, just turn down some settings and you should be fine. Mainly turn down shades, that will increase FPS quite a bit.

Well I just thought that being the GTX 980 Ti is similar to the GTX Titan, I would of thought it would of maxed it out easily.

What sort of card can at 1440p?

And also, this card can run games like GTA V at 4k resolution on very high settings at 50 fps.

wrote I got a 980 and a 1440p monitor at the same time, and I'm having a hard time with a consistent 60 FPS maxing most games [minus supersampling, etc]. Many of these games shouldn't even be that demanding, I feel like. Here's games I've tried:

Also, I have a 2500k @ 4.5ghz and 8gb of RAM

Rust: 70-80 FPS with drops into the 30s if I go into Forests. I assume this is just because the game is in Alpha and pre-optimized.

From a thread on another site. Games like Rust, H1Z1, DayZ, and what not don't run great sometimes, even with high end stuff because the games are still early access. GTA IV is another that's a pain in the ass. Even really high end hardware struggles to run GTA IV well because of how bad a port it was. You'll still be able to play GTA IV at good settings with nice mods though, easily. GTA V is easier to run than GTA IV.

Make sure you're using the display cable properly, and not connecting it to your motherboard I/O. Make sure drivers are up to date, and then set your resolution from your desktop. Might need to mess around a little in GeForce Experience, sometimes settings are a bit messed up when you first install the driver. I had to edit some things a little in GFE when I first installed it.

Yeah, I've installed the latest driver for my 980 ti, the hdmi cable is in the back of the graphics card.

Would you mind sharing your settings for the nvidia experience thing?

Also, how is that guy getting 70 - 80 fps on 1440p and heres me at 20 - 30 on 1440p.

Also, would overclocking my CPU to around 4.2 - 4.4 ghz increase the fps?

You've got a Z97 board and an alright little cooler, might as well overclock a little. Make sure you push it up in smallish increments and stress test properly. You'll probably get more FPS in some areas of the game due to more detail in certain areas. I can't exactly list all of my GFE settings, but just look through GFE, and Nvidia control panel to see if anything looks a bit wrong and change it. It's honestly really straight forward. The only thing that you'll need to change anyway, I imagine, is underscan or whatever, and/or text size.

Ok, I guess I'll have a look. Also, In the future I guess I'll upgrade the processor to an i7. Hopefully that will increase frames.

I just don't understand how some people are getting way better frames then me with the same card.

One guy I was watching had an i7 4790k and gtx 980 ti, maxed out settings on rust and he was getting 120+ fps. Although that was on 1080p.

Upgrading to an i7 won't do much. Trust me, I have a 4790k. For gaming, the extra cost for the i7 is not warranted over an i5.

I don't play Rust, so I'm not going to be able to help much on that, unfortunately. The only explanation I can think of is that whatever area you're spawning in, and playing in, is more demanding, and more detailed.

Also, from benchmarks, I've seen people play BF4 maxed @ 1080p, 130 odd FPS, and then that drops down to 75FPS or so when at 1440p. So, if someones getting 120FPS @ 1080p, don't expect over 100FPS. 60-70FPS sounds about right for you, for Rust(from what I've seen about the game), but it can drop by up to 50% or more, depending on the area(apparently, this is what I've heard, I don't know personally because it's not my kind of game).

Also, 980 TI isn't as good, near as good as a Titan X. A 980 TI hybrid is, in matter of fact a 980 TI hybrid outperforms the titan x in many occasions. The people that were getting such good frames on the game may have tweaked the settings, such as turning shadows down. They also might have a better CPU, which would help with the FPS a bit. The build you have now is great, and it will handle most games on max settings with good frame rates.
