Hey everyone, I've been looking at some of the help me build type threads and see the same things over and over again.

Can we stop recommending the 980Ti for people who are not even gaming in 1440p. It is complete OVERKILL.

The "Newest and Best" is not always the best tool for the job.

I currently have a 970 Strix (Factory OC'd), and I play in 1440p and I can max out almost every game to date.
(Not crysis 3 cus shit cpu)

You DO NOT need the power of a 980Ti in order to play at 60+FPS in 1440p.

Having someone spend $800+ on a GPU and not even have an SSD in their build is awful.

The 980Ti is not meant to be an entry level card. It's an enthusiasts grade card.

I highly recommend not suggesting a high end GPU just because their budget is above $1,000.

I wont turn this into a witch hunt but some of the build I've seen have had:
A bad case with terrible airflow.
4GB of Ram, seriously? Minimum should be atleast 8GB DDR3.
Dead Socket, or limited options.
Pro AMD, Pro Intel, Pro Nvidia.
No SSD.
No HD.
Micro ATX /Mini ITX in a full ATX case. This is a BIG problem.
"Can I upgrade to 2 GPUs" "Sorry you have a Micro ATX so you can't SLI/Crossfire"

Even if it means going over budget, always try to go for an ATX as you can upgrade 2+ GPUs, Ram, more HDs/SSDs later on.

I'll stop for now, but seriously, if you don't understand what each part does then DO NOT SUGGEST IT.

I have to agree fully with you on this.

I recently built my PC, and got some suggestions from that forum.
Most of them are ALWAYS PRO NVIDIA.
ALL of them are PRO INTEL.

I most of them skimp out on the Motherboard to save some money, but I think that is one of the biggest mistakes that people on that forum make.
This creates a bottle neck in terms of features.
On pricier boards you get better OC, BIO, and more ports for future upgrades.

I personally feel that instead of people suggesting parts, there should be a sticky that informs people on how to pick the parts. Rather than having someone one say "Get this GFX", or "get this mobo".

Side note: Higher end Micro ATX boards let you SLI/ Crossfire.
I have a Maximus Gene VII and it has just as many ports, slots, and features that a Full ATX has.

I don't really go to that forum but I have in the past and I imagine that this is due to either uninformed people, or people just trying to be dicks. Usually highly informed respectable will come in, or used to, and help the person out with their build.

Yea most people are nvidia and Iintel fans, I use both of them in my system but that's just because I don't know anything about AMD, so I'd recommend those over AMD just because I don't know enough to recommend AMD.
