MXGP wrote Have been on this rode many times, scary to think that the thousands of times that ride has been round, today is the first time they have a major incident on it! Hopefully the Smiler doesn't get closed for ever considering it has not even been open for that long.

Cost them like 18 million so can't see it closing for good.

Said to be human error that made it crash anyway.

I wouldn't say it's fair to pinpoint one person and have them solely to blame. There will be procedures that they have to follow and I'm sure that whoever it was that set off the next carriage with people on board was only following those procedures. "Human error" - but what about the machinery not working in the first place? There might have even been something on the system that they use to start up the roller coaster indicating that it was alright for the next carriage to go.

Still though, horrific accident. It's been confirmed one of the victims have lost a leg.

The people at the front of the ride have 'destroyed legs', looks like Thorpe Park is gonna be busy now.

The computers should of stopped the carriage with the people on it on the lift or before the lift because there is a blockage on every roller coaster that to not allow two carriages on at the same time and the sensors should know that the other carriage has stopped on a certain piece of a track, the only way that carriage still carried on with those 16 people on it is if someone overridden it.

One of the girls has had to have her leg amputated from above the knee.

The compensation for that, WOW.

Her boyfriend also suffered two broken knees with three others seriously injured
Just imagine losing a leg on a ride in Alton towers - must be absolutely devastating especially at a young age of 17, I hope she gets a huge compensation pay out.

Thoughts and prayers go to her family, although she never lost her life, losing a leg will affect a huge part of her life ahead

Because she is so young the payout will be even bigger!
