You can't have your own account in the US until you are 18. You can have an account with your parents but the card will have to be in their name as you are not 18.

I believe you can open up a savings account, but you cannot get a credit card. I had a bank account back in elementary school that I put money into for college. They didn't give me a credit or debt card, or my parents just never gave it to me lol.

No...most banks do not allow minors to have a bank account on their own...for the reason that minors are not allowed to enter into a legal contract.

No you can not. With your parents, however, you can open a savings account. But that is it.

Edit: I guess it depends on the state you live in and what bank.

I am 14 and I opened a bank account and have a debit card linked to it. Pretty sure my mom can access it though...

I opened my checking account when i was 16. It was branched off of my parent's though so I didn't have to pay all the fees and such. I had my own card with my picture and my name on it.

If you are under 18 you are required to be jointed with another account.

In the U.S. you will have to have a co-signer whose over 18 if you want a savings account with a debit card and you will not be able to open a checking account unless it's in your parents name.

You have to have a co-sign for both. I was 16 when I got my checking account and it was in my name.
