An Army veteran who saved a dog from a hot car has been arrested for smashing a window to free the animal.
Michael Hammons of Athens, Georgia was charged with criminal trespassing after freeing a small Pomeranian mix in distress from a hot car outside a store.
Witnesses say that while a group of shoppers waited for police to arrive to free the dog, the Desert Storm veteran smashed the window of the silver Mustang using his wife's wheelchair leg.

'I've got PTSD, and I've seen enough death and destruction,' Hammons said. 'And I didn't want anything else to happen if I could prevent it.'

It infuriates me, to think that a man who has gone through enough trauma in his life is charged for saving the life of an animal that was carelessly put in that situation by its ignorant owner.

It is also equally stupid as there is a law which allows citizens to break into vehicles to save a child's life, but not that of an animal, why should animals be of less importance?

Georgia state law allows an individual to break a window to save a child in distress but not a pet. Animal advocates say they are working to change the law

What do you think of this?

Animals are considered property in just about every state.
Children aren't.

I agree it's a little messed up, but he still broke the law.

He broke the law.
There is nothing unlawful about it.

It isn't BS. You have to look at it from the owners point of view, a man damaged your car to rescue your dog. Even though the vet rescued your dog, he broke the law when he damaged your car.
I personally think what the vet did was nice for the dog.

Even if it was against the law, I can't be mad at the guy. The dog was suffering and he helped it. I hope animal advocates do help and get the law changed to include pets. Should be seen as animal cruelty to leave an animal in a hot vehicle like that.
