Currently, I work at my local pizzeria as the pizza delivery boy, which is ironically in the higher class part of my town. The pizza shop even supplied me with a car. Albeit its a Toyota Prius, its still a car. At first, i worked on tuesday, wendessay, and thursday and there were not many deliveries being made, so i asked my boss (Who is really chill and surprisingly only a couple years older than me) if i could work the weekends instead as, Im from New York and Football Saturdays and Sundays are huge delivery days. My boss said fine and changed my shifts to Saturday and Sunday. (This all happened last week by the way) My first delivery was massive. it was on a saturday and i had to deliver 12 pies, 60 wings and 6 2 liter pepsi's (which is our rarely ordered party deal) it cost a little over $100 so i was expecting a good tip. he gave me about $140 and asked for change back. i said sure, mabye thinking he'll pocket the big bills, but no. literally he gave no tip. not even a dollar. i was more disappointed than furious because spending over $100 on pizza and wings is much. The next day, my boss heard that and really felt bad so he gave me waiter job for dinner on sunday. this elderly couple walked in and i treated them perfectly, Even giving him a free soup because he did not like our house dressing on our salad (which he specifically asked for) So then i felt deja vu and had a feeling where this was going. he ordered Baked Ziti and his wife ordered eggplant rollatini. they seemed satisfied so i left them for one minute to see how our other guests were doing. when i come back, i hear a noise. he dropped the baked ziti on the floor, cracking the plate. i had them get up so i can clean up the mess, sat them down at fresh table, and gave him a brand new baked ziti, even though his was already half eaten. so after there meal, he asked to take the baked ziti home because he did not finish it, so i had our bag guy in the back do that for them. as i received the bill, i looked at the table to see what my prize was, nada. I guess im just an unlucky person. ever happen to anyone else?

You get paid for your job, don't you?
I don't understand why we seem to have this idea that we should tip waiters and pizza boys but not supermarket assistants or secretaries, etc.
You do a job, you get paid.
If you don't like the pay and getting tips is something you need to stay afloat, find a better paying job.

And im still in school so that's another time restraint. Im satisfied with my pay for the most part. My rant is really about those two rare circumstances I mentioned. I just figured tip was common courtesy.

Ranting about people not giving you extra money is pretty greedy in my opinion. Tipping is not required, especially if they already spent a whole ton of money on their food.
If you give people good service, and people like you; then you might get tips just because people liked their service. Its not a requirement to give tips, and not everybody is financially stable so giving tips might not be the best thing for them on top of an already expensive meal.

Well I used to be a cook in the back of a restaurant when I had my first job and this is what all the waitresses would complain about. But, if they didn't receive a lot of tips, they would be getting their money by how many hours they worked. They balanced tips and hours worked together to get your check every week.
Tipping isn't a must do thing, even though you work you're butt off to satisfy the customer. The customer isn't looking at it from your position. I understand what you're saying, but don't expect a big tip now a days.

But, as I mentioned, if your ordering over 100$ in pizza im sure your financially stable. Also, as I mentioned it is notoriously the wealthier part of town so tipping is common in most jobs in my town, such as supermarket baggers. I think I overheard my boss is going to include tips in bills for sit in meals. I guess its become to common of a theme. But sorry if I sounded greedy

I can understand your point about not getting tipped, and fair enough by the old couple they should have at least paid a little extra for the mess etc. so I feel for you on that one, but still tips aren't required, they're rarely given by generous people, and theres not many people like that im afraid, if you ever deliver to my house in the uk my mum tips every pizza guy that delivers :cool:

In a sense, this is a valid rant.
Waiters and delivery people are the only ones who can be legally paid under minimum wage because they're basically living off tips.
Waiters: $2.15/hour
Delivery dude: $4.25/hour

Tipping is not needed, that's what your pay cheque is for, but the old couple leaving nothing seems a bit ungrateful.
