Being skinny in itself does not make pull ups easier. It depends on the amount of upper body muscle mass compared to total body weight.

He probably has more muscle endurance than you. Plus, he has less weight to pull up. I'm about 6'3 185 and 18. I can max out at about 250, but I can only do about 8 good pull ups to expect to finish another set of them. Pull ups are literally pulling your own weight. 200lbs with just your arms is not easy. A lot of people won't go all the way down either, which almost defeats the purpose of doing them. In all honesty, who cares how many pull ups another person can do..

Edit: Also take in account arm length. This affects me on pull ups and benching ( just a bit). I have longer arms which means I'm pulling up from a further start point. This is similar to squatting as I also have long legs.

Then he's probably one of those guys that likes make it look like he's doing more than he really has to. With any exercise, you get a harder workout when you're going full range of motion at a moderate pace. It's like doing 25 slow military push ups as opposed to just cranking out 25 real fast. You definitely will feel the difference.

Strengthen your lats and biceps seeing they're the 2 main muscles being worked. As well as your forearms, deltoids, pecs and abdomen. The easiest way would probably doing weighted pull ups or really pushing your self on seated rows or lat pulldowns.

I would say it is definitely easier to do pull ups if you are pulling up less weight?

liljay685 wrote The reason I am wondering because im oblivious stronger than him but he did 20 to my 5. Im in the delayed entry program for the Marines and based on our PFT standards he would have pass the pull up part with a 100. and i would have just barley made it over the minimum.

Yes i would suggest to start working on the pullups but the actual serious question is how is everything else?(3-Mile Run, Abdominal Crunches)

Iv seen similar instances in the gym. Your not considered weak don't worry about that. I personally would of classed myself as the skinny guy a couple weeks back. I could do about 25 pull-ups before dropping.

Since iv been going gym iv put on more muscle and found it harder to do pull ups. Its just because your body is putting on more Mass. Your body is denser and it does make it harder. But if you work on your arms you'll find out you'll be able to lift your own weight more.
