iTwerks wrote You don't necessarily have to re buy windows. I was in a similar situation, and all you have to do is burn a copy of a Repair Installation Disc (Google for it) for your copy of Windows. After repairing your system, you can re-validate the OS with your current Product Key.
if I can find out where my key is I could buy a install disc for 10$ on eBay but it says 64 bit or 32 which one should I get for a prespario compaq cq61

Most computers nowadays use 64.

If this is your computer, you have 64 bit.
yes its my computer I got it about 5 years ago. Do you think I should buy a 64 bit reinstall disc? Would it work

Microsoft hosts downloads for the disk images for all versions of Windows 7 through Digital River for free. They're useful for startup repair or when you just have a key.

You can use this to create a bootable disk/drive: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Assuming startup repair will actually solve this problem.

^^^That's what I was talking about, but it seems that he doesn't have access to another computer to actually download and burn it.
