Account Page

Components to the account page

The below sections are all to the side to better the seeing ability of it. It is rather sloppy centered. Below you will find a screen cap of my account page, similar to yours. Only a select few, customizable things will be different. Now, the page will be labeled in numbers and boxes. You will have to coordinate the numbers and boxes the the numbers here on this thread in order to find what/how each item/thing is usable, and how it is used.

First Third of a Profile

Find each number below for an explanation for each:

1. The number one box contains your avatar, and your username.
2. The number two box contains your status. As long as it abides by the rules, you can set it at whatever. Mine was just 'Status' for educational purposes.
3. The number three box contains a YouTube video of your choice. As long as it abides by the rules, of course.
4. The number four box contains: Update Your Status (located on number 2), Update your avatar, update your signature, update your background and lastly Update your profile. Updating your avatar is self-explanatory, as well as updating your signature, which you would have to have gold for, and updating your background it'll changing your background for the whole site & when users view your profile, they will be about to see it. Updating your profile is for everything to do with technical things, name color, username changes, preferences, settings etc. Also if you click "XX% complete." it'll show you what you're missing.

5. The number 5 box contains your ranking, reputation power, join date, last time visited, and further below is more stuff which you'll find explained a bit further down. Your ranking is determined by your post count, but only if you don't have a special badge or staff rank. Reputation power has a section in this thread. Join date is self-explanatory.
6. The number 6 box contains your banner. As long as it abides by rules, you may have whatever.
7. The number 7 box contains the title of your wall, which will be explained below, in the next set of photos.

Second Third of a Profile

Relate each corresponding numbers to the boxes.

8.The number 8 box contains your current status on the website, and your homepage. Your homepage can be anything, as long as it's not an advertisement.
9.The number 9 box is self explanatory. Your gender, occupations, interests, and your favorite sports team.
10.The number 10 box contains your gold membership expiration date, obviously only if you have gold. Also it shows how many people you've gifted. This box is only visible to gold members.
11.The number 11 box contains your wall posts. These are from strangers or friends and can be seen by everyone, unless you set it so that only friends can view your wall. You can find these options in the 'Update your Profile' tab.
12.The number 12 box contains the delete button for posts made on your wall.

The Final Third of a Profile Page

Numbers are above the box that they are intended for, unless the are already in the box itself. I did this to make sure there was no confusion.

13.The number 13 box contains your pages of wall writes.
14.The number 14 box contains the box in which you type in when making a wall post on another's wall.
15.The number 15 box contains your friends that have either accepted your friend request, or you have accepted theirs.
16.The number 16 box contains the pending friend requests form people that have added YOU.
17.The number 17 box contains a list of all the TTG members. You can sort them by a ton of categories such as post count and join date.
18.The number 18 box contains any bookmarks you've made on the SITE, not on your browser. To bookmark a topic, profile, etc, go to your notifications bar, click it, and find 'Bookmark this page' [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
19.The number 19 box contains all your reputation stats including how many more posts until a rep power is gained, and so on.
20.The number 20 box contains your warnings. It has issued dates, reasons, and severity.
21.The number 21 box contains your activity. That includes news comments, friends added, wall posts, all of that technical stuff.
22.The number 22 box contains your forum stats. It shows your 10 most recent topics and posts, your thank count, your archived topic/post count, anything to do with posting in the forum.
23.The number 23 box contains all of your news comments.
24.The number 24 box contains your last 10 visitors to your account. It also shows your total visits.

Reputation

The current rep system is different from the old one. The old system allowed you to -Rep someone. This was taken out. It was removed because of people complaining of losing reputation.

Now the new system consists of only +Repping people. Rep is usually given out for someone contributing something, or helping etc.

How to Rep:

To rep someone, find the +Rep button in the bottom right corner of the post.

Then you should get this:

Click the drop down tab and click how many points you want to give.

Admins can rep up to 1000 points

Sectional mod and Global mods can rep up to 100 points

A gold member can rep up to 50 points

A regular member may give up to 25 points

***YOU DO NOT LOSE POINTS BY REPPING OTHERS!***

You don't need to add reason, but I usually do. Just to show that I mean it. Also, if you have a valid reason, and you don't want to look like you are rep boosting, add a reason.

Rep from others:

A way to earn rep is reciving rep from others.

100 rep from other members = 1 rep power

But with the privilege of getting rep from others, comes the responsibility of not abusing that privilege. You cannot do what is called rep boosting, which is asking a friend, or fellow member, to rep you, for no apparent reason.

How to earn rep without others repping you

For every 25 posts you post, you advance by 1 Rep power.

So this means if you make 75 posts in 4 days, you will have gained 3 rep powers.

Make sense?

Sometimes it may say more then 25 posts to earn a rep power. This is because you posted on a deleted topic.

Ever wondered who the most rep here at TTG? Well, his name is Dimebag. And As far I know, he got the majority of it through lobbies he used to host.

He has 2,290 reputation power.

Premium/Gold

Sly gave me the idea to go ahead and add this in.

So for you new members, premium is also known as gold. There are many post about if Gold is worth it or not. To give you my opinion, it is well worth the money. It is cheap, only $5.97. You are also contributing to the sites payments. Yes, that's right, you help pay to keep the site running.

How to get Gold
There are 2 ways to get gold.

Buy

The easiest way is buying yourself. Click the premium tab along the upper part of your screen and you will be lead through. You need a Paypal account with money on it, that has been verified by a legitimate bank account.

Getting Gifted

If a member decides that you deserve to be gifted gold they will give you something called the gift
Of gold. This is where this certain member pays for your gold for you. Which in my eyes is very generous. You do not have to pay for anything and you get everything a gold member who purchased their own gold.

Ways of receiving this gift is helping out members, being active, hosting lobbies etc.

Thanking Topics

In order to show your appreciation towards a topic, Sean added a 'Thanks' button a while back. Lets say I deem a post helpful, I will go head and hit thanks. The Thanks button is only on threads, not posts on thread. For posts on the thread, use the https://www.thetechgame.com/themes/ttgv4/style/images/thumbs_up.png and the https://www.thetechgame.com/themes/ttgv4/style/images/thumbs_down.png buttons.

How to thank

Most of you know how to thank already, but for the newbies:

This is around the same area as rep.

All you have to do is hit the thanks button, no need for an amount or anything like rep does.

So, look at the bottom right hand corner of a thread you deem helpful.

It will take you to another screen saying 'Your Thanks Has Been Added'.

How to see how many thanks you have

In order to see how many 'Thanks' you have, click on your username in the upper right hand corner.

Now scroll down all the way to the bottom.

Look for a button like this:

Click it.

Now here you can see all your forum stats. Such as helpful posts, posts per day etc.

Look for where it says Thanked __ times in __ topics.

Your numbers will be in this.

Shoutbox

Per request, I have added a section about the shout box. Many of you may not know about this, but it is quite fun. This is one of the few good ways to get known around TTG. I suggest having gold.

Clicking https://www.thetechgame.com/images/modules/mini_popup.png opens the Shoutbox in a window.

Shout Box 'Rules'

As in all areas of the site, you must abide by the rules.

I suggest not spamming, that leads you to a mute which eventually leads to a ban/suspension.

You can post links, as long as they pertain to the rules. Some sites are block. Pornographic/drug related images are not permitted in the shoutbox.

Just use common sense and you'll make friends and won't be banned.

Shoutbox Settings

Newly implemented shoutbox settings are now usable. You can access and change these settings to your liking, but are for premium members only.

To access the settings, find this button at the bottom of the shoutbox area.

Click on that button. You will find this page that pops up.

You can adjust those settings for yourself. They are mostly straight forward but a brief explanation of each is below.

Incoming shouts:

Background color: The color of a shout that someone sends to you. Will look like this if set as yellow.

Play shout alert: Is just a sound when someone types @(yourname)

Enable Text Colors: Shows other's shouts in color or not in color

Outgoing shouts

Shout text color: will make any shout you send a certain color

Tutorials

Some of you may know about the tutorials tab. It is located along the upper part of your screen where 'Home', 'Forums' etc tabs are. It looks like this:

Most of the tuts are modding tutorials.

Say you want to learn how to save game mod. Go ahead and click the 'Gamesave Modding Tutorials' option. Should look like this:

Find a gamesave you like and go ahead and mod it! The tutorial will help you with everything.

Tutorial King Badge

This badge requires that you submit a total of 100 submissions that are approved to the tutorial section.

Downloads

The downloads tab is in the almost exact same spot along the top with all the other tabs.

All these downloads are free. So enjoy them.

Now, this tab has Downloads for everything modding. Xbox, PS3, Wii, Nintendo etc. Feel free to download, and none are viruses due to the fact that they must be approved by staff first. Good to know you have security.

Many, many people are confused about this badge. This badge is given to you when you SUBMIT 100 downloads that are approved. Many people think that it is when they download 100 submissions.

Well there is not much to say about this. It has videos of many generes such as Gameplays, glitches and tricks, machinima, etc.

I really advise following the rules if you plan on having a future here on TTG. When, and if, you don't abide by the rules, you get warnings (Duh). When you get warnings, your stay here gets sour. Please read the rules!

Forum Stats and How to View Them

So have you ever wondered where that one stop shop was for all of your forum activity? Well I will show you.

First: Find your name top right hand corner.

Click it. Now scroll to the bottom and find this tab:

Click upon that. You will get a whole list of: Thumbs up, thumbs down, thanked thread count, archived posts, and much more. (See below for archived posts explanation.)

Backgrounds

Backgrounds were once an age old idea taken away because of the massive lag they caused, or at least that seems to be the general consensus of the older members. Very recently (Jan. 2014), backgrounds were reintroduced. Backgrounds for what, you might ask? For your profile of course. It's not a tremendously huge factor in anything, it's just a little more decoration. Now this background also does stay as you browse TTG. Also, when other members visit your profile, they can see what BG you're using. Oh and by the way, being a Premium member of TTG is required in order to be able to have a background.

So, if you are a gold member, here's how to put a background on.

First, go to this link here (your profile), and go on to step 2.

Now scroll down a bit and find where it says all of this on the left side:

See where it says "Update Your Background" ? Click on that.

Now you're here, where you can either upload an image straight from your computer, or a link of an image.

Once again, ALL forum rules apply to these images, so in turn they are verified before they are allowed to be used publicly, so save staff some time and don' be stupid with inappropriate images.

Reporting Threads/Profiles

You can report people in two different spots. Their profile, and on a thread or reply to a thread the made.

Now first I will talk about the thread reports.

To report a thread, find the 'Report' button in the bottom right hand corner of the 'box' their post is orientated around.

It looks like this:

Click that.

Now find the drop down arrow.

And find whatever the rule(s) they broke in that current post you are reporting.

Below you will find a list and explanation of each item you can report someone for.

Thread/Post Reporting

The rule is in purple and explanation in black.

Abusing Sticky Rules:Now abusing sticky rules means not following the rules put in place by the sticky in that section. An example is not abiding by Marketplace sticky rules.

Abusing Multiple Accounts:All this rule means is that if you have multiple accounts, you can not rep boost, thanks boost or anything of the sort.

Account Sale(s):Account sales, whether its a TTG account, XBL account, PSN account, Steam account, or anything of the nature is NOT allowed.

Advertising:Advertising is as simple as the person advertising another website, mostly a gaming site.

All Capital letters:Typing in all caps

Asking for Gold:Pretty much just blatantly asking for the GIFT of gold.

Asking for Rep: Self Explanatory

Asking for Thanks: Asking for thanks on a thread

Bots/Hacking Related: Anything to do with taking of, or modifying accounts.

Bumping: Posting on your thread to keep it at the top of that specific forum

Buying/Selling Virtual Items: Self Explanatory

Contests/Giveaways: No gold giveaways/MSP/PSN Codes

Delete/Close Topic at Request: If you want YOUR topic closed

Discussing Staff Bans: Self Explanatory

Drug Related: Self Explanatory

Flaming: Hating/Making a deal of others business

GT Spamming: Posting others/your friends GT to get spammed for lobbies

Gold Giveaways: Making posts announcing them giving away gold membership

Gravedigging: Posting on a topic that hasn't been responded to in 2 weeks

Illegitimate Download Link: Self Explanatory

Illegitimate Hoster: Self Explanatory

Illegitimate Seller: Self Explanatory

Impersonation Of another Member: Posing as another member

If you look above each and every forum, you will see either a topic with a https://www.thetechgame.com/themes/ttgv4/forums/images/folder_sticky.png or a https://www.thetechgame.com/themes/ttgv4/forums/images/folder_announce.png or even a https://www.thetechgame.com/themes/ttgv4/forums/images/folder_announce_new.png

Each of these mean a different thing.

https://www.thetechgame.com/themes/ttgv4/forums/images/folder_sticky.png This post is helpful or is an enforced rule that needs to be stressed. Most of these kinds of topics can be found in the General Discussion.

https://www.thetechgame.com/themes/ttgv4/forums/images/folder_announce.png This blue megaphone stands for an announcement. This means it will only show up on the forum you are currently on.

This thread will only show up in the general discussion.

https://www.thetechgame.com/themes/ttgv4/forums/images/folder_announce_new.png The red megaphone means this is a global announcement. This means this thread is viewable from all forums. This global announcement shows up every where you will go

Thumb Up/Down

So many users use the https://www.thetechgame.com/themes/ttgv4/style/images/thumbs_up.png and the https://www.thetechgame.com/themes/ttgv4/style/images/thumbs_down.png to show their agreement or disagreement towards anothers reply to a post. This is not what it is for.

If you put your cursor over you will see 'Useful' or 'Not Useful'.

I encourage you to use it for the way it was implemented.

To thumb someone up/down go to the bottom right hand corner of a REPLY to a topic.

And click it.

As you can see it is right next to 'Rep' and 'Report'

To check how many of each you have follow the steps mentioned in the rep explanation and look at your forums stats.

You now are also able to see who Thumbed Up/Thumbed Down someone's reply. Just go to the number and click it: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Then something like this box will pop up, containing the users who agreed (if you clicked the green number) or who disagreed (red). [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

How to Submit: Tutorials, Videos, and/or Downloads.

MANY people have been asking how to submit a video/download/tutorial. The button for submission is quite small to say the least.

So first...

Find what you want to submit.

Where to submit downloads: Downloads.html

Tutorials: Tutorials.html

Videos: Videos.html

Choose one or multiple of these to submit to.

Now some of you might find it but it is hard. To add to either one of the three sections...

Find the Add '_____' (_____ is whatever you are submitting)

Click the Add button.

Rules for adding tutorials:

One and only rule: A text tutorial is REQUIRED. TTG staff will no longer accpet tutorials with YouTube videos only.

Rules for adding videos:

Your IP is tracked. So do NOT abuse the video submitting system
Do not submit any videos with copyrighted material. I.E. Music, videos etc.
If you are posting another person's video, get permission before submitting.

Rules for adding downloads:

Submit unique downloads. Which means, do not submit downloads already submitted. Check before submitting.
All downloads submitted may not be of copyrighted material. TTG is at risk of getting in trouble for such content.
ALL files submitted are Virus scanned.

News Section

The news section is located at the top on the ribbon of other 'buttons'. The news section contains news articles mostly having to do with video games and technological things with recent articles about most things. If you are curious to have updates on news articles and when they are posted, you can go to the TTG twitter. There, news article links are posted daily/whenever a news article is posted to the site. You can find the TTG twitter [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

News comments count towards your post count but DO NOT count towards reputation points. So, in essence, when you post on the forums, you receive 1 reputation point and a single post up on your post count per reply/topic, but when you post on a news article, you only will receive an up on your post count.

How/Where to Find Articles

Articles can be found in two different areas. You can see news article stats under the 'News' tab. You can also find the last five articles posted.

The second area where you can find news articles is the Home Page. Here you will find articles for Xbox (Microsoft), Playstation (Sony), PC Gaming (PC), and General Technical news.

To find more news stories for each categories , find the button that says '+News' in the bottom right corner of each column for each 'subject'. The button looks like this:

There, you will find the five most recent articles, of course in relation to the first five articles you see before clicking the 'News+' button.

Article Authors

Administrators are the authors of the articles you see in all of the sections. Users cannot They aren't technically the 'original' authors as much of the information is obtained from other sites. Most of them are written by admins, but not all is their information, that they found out.

Either submit a link, image link. Must end with .jpg .png etc.

>How do I add a sig?

First of all, to have a signature, you must be gold.

Just follow the above procedure but instead click 'update signature'.

The Contact Us section is a useful tool for contacting administrators when you have no other way of possible communication. The Contact Us can be used in a numerous amount of ways. One being the most common would be an account discrepancy such as a hacking of your account or anything of the nature to where you can't log in and contact a staff member via your account. This is by no means a way to ask for an unbanning or anything of the sort.

Your message will be sent to the head of the administration team where it'll be reviewed and action will be taken towards such reported problems.

To find the Contact Us form, scroll down to the very bottom of any TTG webpage and locate this section in your bottom left hand corner.

Obviously click on the "Contact Us" part. This is where you can get a hold of a site administrator. Do not abuse this feature or you may be punished accordingly by the staff team.

Enter all the information truthfully and honestly as that is what they will use to determine whether your issue is viable or not. Make sure you input an email you will check often and that you still have access too.

Spelling isn't a problem as long as you're making an attempt at doing it right. What you posted was probably deleted because it broke a rule. I would recommend reading the rules, which can be found under a tab on this thread, before posting.
