I've never really questioned this phrase before about 10 minutes ago, but now it's really bugging me.
What is so great about having your eyes open? Figuratively speaking obviously.

If you're a realist, like me, you'll know how this feels [unless I'm just weird] you can't take anything on faith, everything has to be tried, tested, and tried again there has to be evidence backing up everything that you believe.
In doing this though, you accumulate more and more facts, and you can't help but realize just how terrible everything is, you realize it but you can't accept it either.
You see how horrible nature and human nature is, but your mind forgets to see the beauty of it at the same time.

Living with your 'eyes open' is like going into a park, and instead of admiring the beauty of it and being happy in that moment, you can't help but notice the cigarette buds and beer bottles scattered behind the bushes.

I don't see how people live a happy life with their eyes open, everything has to be criticized and analysed, and in doing so, the bad just comes pouring out of everything.
If I could live my life over with my 'eyes closed' I would do it in a heartbeat.
Or I could be the only person who thinks like this, which I doubt.

Honestly I have never heard of this before. This is the first time that I have heard it.

But I actually agree with what you are saying and agree with you.

All I can say is.

I question everything, analyze everything. I think it gives better insight of the world itself, sometimes it can be overwhelming when you realize how F'd up stuff is but hey, that's just me.

I have felt this for a long time now actually. Ignorance really is bliss. Life would be so much easier and simpler if you don't actually analyze everything. Living your life and believing certain stories just as your family did without any second thoughts. Fitting in would be a whole lot easier as well. It is why I would (at times) choose the artificial reality from your post in the Conspiracy section.

In saying that though, having closed eyes would not help the world at all. The bad parts of life can only change if someone identifies them. It does get tiring and depressing though. People with open eyes need to be strong minded and strong willed, or they have a chance to be swallowed by the feelings that seeing the bad can bring. I don't feel like I am either of those, but it is what it is.

All in all, usually open eyed is good for the world but bad for the individual. Of course, close eyed is usually the opposite.
