4) I wouldn't. I'd leave the city immediately and get as far away as possible. I'd tell everyone I know that I personally care for to leave as well. Torturing get's you no where and is a pointless technique that does not work. I'd just be wasting time when I can be fleeing.

As stated in the original post "You can brutally torture the man to find out where the bomb is, should you?
Ergo, you will find out where it's located. Do you know change your mind?

No because I wouldn't know what to do with the bomb if I found it. I'd probably just stare at it in awe.

Kurisu asked me to post my opinions on these so;

5. The Trolley/Train Problem.
As someone who doesn't adhere to any sort of morality, but see's the least amount of suffering to be a good ethical code to work by, I would switch the lever because it would cause the least amount of pain and suffering to the least amount of people and families.

4. The Ticking Time Bomb.
While I'm sure it would come down to my state of mind at the time, right now I would say torturing the guy is how I would tackle this situation.
It's strange how I have reservations about torturing someone when millions of lives are at risk, yet when it comes to 5 lives and one death being at stake, the decision is almost obvious.

3. The Famous Violinist.
I wouldn't stay attached to this man.
I don't think that anyone should be forced into a situation that they don't choose to be in.
It's the same reason that I agree with abortion in cases of non-consensual relationships.

2. The Experience Machine.
I wouldn't plug myself into this machine.
I have a healthy respect for reality, and, as someone already pointed out, the dream world would end up becoming as mediocre as the real world eventually.

1. The Ship of Theseus.
I believe that it is a different ship, yet it still holds the identity of the Ship of Theseus.
Much in the same way that the human body constantly regenerates cells, bones and tissue, meaning you aren't in the same body that you were 10 years ago, but you are still you.

Not sure I understand why it would become as mediocre as the real world.
If it's a world of your wildest dreams how would it become "mediocre?"

Over time it would become normal.
Imagine if you were put onto the Earth for the first time as it is now, it would all be exciting and fun to start with, but over time it would dull, things would seem less fantastical.

1. Never gonna let 5 people die instead of 1

2. Gonna have to go with torture sadly

3. Give up 9 months

4. You would forget everything? I'd plug myself in

5. Up where I used to live the mechanics would keep the cars names the previous owner had given them even if they had to replace almost everything so I will go with probably Never changing the name

Gonna have to say, some of these questions were pretty hard. Nice thread.

It may become normal but it gets you away from a bad life if you have one. I'd rather go with the life of guaranteed happiness, even if it's fake, than a nightmare of one in the real world.

5) pull the leaver, save 5
4) pretty obvious, you torture by any means necessary. (you got this one wrong, it was torturing his family to get him to tell you.)
3) You are not obliged. Would get myself detached ASAP
2) God no
1) its like restoring a car. Its the same car just different if you know what I mean.

That's the film Unthinkable.
The original version of this thought experiment was just torturing the man, which is the one that I'm using.
