Alright so this is going to be less of a tutorial than you'd expect. Its more or less advice and helpful tips for anyone trying to become a successful designer.

If you have a passion for designing, why not make it a career? In today's society, it's a totally viable option.

My first bit of advice would be to understand the field. As a designer, you need to know what you're agreeing to when taking on a job. There are a few types of graphic design jobs. Two that come to mind are freelance and contracted.

Contracted Work tends to associate with Agencies, this could be a great job for you, but also requires specific hours, orders, and deadlines. You tend to be stuck with a company until the contract expires.

Freelance Work is done on your own time, still with set deadlines, but ones you set. You work for yourself, whether it be at an office or from home. This is the best way to start out.

You also need to understand the truth. The truth is, you aren't going to make it overnight. It could take MONTHS before you start making a steady revenue from freelance designing. And not every client you get is gonna be a great one. If you're looking to get started, I suggest [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] You create and sell logos at the price you choose to a HUGE audience. I've been successful with this site, and so have others.

Now lets get into some tips for designing.

1. No matter how much you want to, do NOT copy.

2. Don't let your clients dictate everything
- While it's important to meet the clients needs, don't let them dictate the whole project. If you know their idea won't look great, tell them. Suggest other ideas. Do your best to avoid telling them you don't like their idea. Say things like "I think something like this would look better"

3. Know your audience
- You need to know who and what you're designing for. Do your research, ask clients as many questions as you need to know the company. This will not only open up a wide variety of options for a logo, but also for a full brand.

4. Move Around
- Sitting in front of your computer screen for hours on end will get boring, especially if you're working on a project. If you have the option to, take your work with you. Go to a coffee shop or a park. Change the scenery.

5. Schedule/Time Management
- You're going to need to know how to schedule your day to become successful. My schedule is:

Monday-Friday:

- Wake up
- Shower
- Breakfast
- Begin Client Work
- Lunch
- Watch some TV or Go for a walk
- Resume Work
- Dinner
- Relaxing (This is VERY important)
- Bed/Sleep

I say relaxing is important because it truly is. You don't want to spend your ENTIRE day designing. I also have a set rule for myself not to work on weekends, or rather, to keep them as open as I can. If I have a deadline I'm running behind on, I may make an exception. But it's very important to keep time for yourself.

Alright so thats about it for this article. Hope you all enjoyed. If you have any questions feel free to ask them
