Xbox One exclusive

Synopsis

Killer Instinct is your classic arena fighting game. It follows the Killer Instinct series and was developed by Double Helix Games under the supervision of Ken Lobb. Killer Instinct is an Xbox One exclusive and comes as a free version with the newly released Xbox One console, with two game upgrade options to extend overall variety and gameplay.

Gameplay

As said earlier. Killer Instinct is your classic arena fighting game. You use different skills and combos to damage and defeat your enemy. If you are able to complete a combo correctly, you will be rewarded by issuing out some damage to the enemy, but if you fail, you tend to pay the price depending on who you are facing, or the difficulty you are on. Each character of the game has their own style and different moves, as well as abilities. Different characters strive at different things, and also have disadvantages when it comes to different aspects. The gameplay and fighting of Killer Instinct runs very smoothly, the gameplay is easy to pick up on, and is quite enjoyable for the most part. Besides, of course with any fighting game, the stupid corners you can be trapped in. One of the few downsides to the gameplay would have to be the limitation of characters, in the game, there's only 6 in total. Which makes the game lack variety when it comes to that point. Overall the game is very enjoyable, and can get very competitive once you pick up on the combos and techniques of the characters and your opponents.

Graphics

The graphics for Killer Instinct are very good, and very well illustrate what the Xbox One has to offer. Every aspect of the game is very smooth, and very realistic looking. The backgrounds of each level have very small minor details in the distance, and look as if you are visiting an actual place. The backgrounds of the levels are something you will look twice at, they are that appealing to the eye. The only downside of the graphics for this game, is the way the characters look. The word cartoonish comes to mind when I'm looking at the previews of the characters, even though the characters have some detail, and realism added to them. But that is something you will look past. Overall the graphics are good, and appealing to the eye.

Controls

The controls for the game are average and fairly easy to pick up on.. The trick is the combos you will learn, which will require you to hit several buttons in a pattern to complete the certain move combos. The basic movement of the character is controlled by the analog sticks, as expected. The fighting, strikes, jumping and moves are controlled with the ABXY buttons, and the triggers allow for an extension of your basic strikes and moves. Overall the controls for Killer Instinct are again, very simple and easy to pick up on. No complaints or issues here.

Overall

Overall Killer Instinct is an amazing fighting game. This is a great addition to a classic style of game. If you are a big fan of these types of games, Killer Instinct delivers. The combos, tactics, moves, characters and overall gameplay are all greatly executed when it comes to overall performance. The game simply runs smooth. The way this game allows you to learn and get better is what really makes the game what it is. Unlike other games, you won't just jump in and be demolished until you learn how to play, instead, you can actually learn and gain skill at a pace. The downside of this game is some aspects of the graphics, some of the characters don't look as if they should, and can come off as cartoonish. Another thing would be the lack of roster. Killer Instinct is limited to only 6 characters as of right now. To put it all in one, this game is a good one. And if you find yourself coming back to it, I would recommend buying the extended version.

This game has amazing netcode, there's no lag at all. It's very responsive, addictive, and matches are very exciting. I've been playing for hours and my thumbs are sore.

I play with the D-Pad, because the fight stick is super expensive, I'm not getting it, lol. You can pull most of the combos with the pad anyways
