Developer: Altar Games
Publisher: TopWare Interactive
Platform: Windows
Release date: February 9, 2007
Genre: Turn-based strategy, Real-time tactics
Mode: Single player

Synopsis
UFO: Afterlight is a 2007 strategy computer game and the third in Altar's UFO series. Like its predecessors UFO: Aftermath and UFO: Aftershock, it combines squad-level tactical combat with overlying strategic elements in a manner that's deliberately very much like the major 1994 classic X-COM: UFO Defense.

Gameplay
In Afterlight, you progress through the game in two parts. The first part is the strategy game consisting of taking territory, building structures on the planet, managing research and production, base management, and diplomacy where you can trade items and resources with other people. The second part of Afterlight is the tactical game where, you equip and direct up to seven soldiers to accomplish a goal in missions. Some mission goals are to capture or kill a specific target, destroy or retrieve a particular item, and the ubiquitous kill everything that moves. The game starts with a set number of characters, and a few new characters become available as you play throughout the game, you can't simply hire new people when you need them. Also Drones can be found in some missions who gain experience just like characters do, and can be repaired and upgraded with parts you can build. Characters can have a single class such as Soldier, Technician, or Scientist. Some characters have more than one class, such as Scientist/Soldier, Technician/Soldier, or Scientist/Technician.

Graphics
The graphics inside Afterlight are okay, but nothing special. You cannot compare them to new games due this being released 7 years ago, but for the time they were good. Saying that though, 3rd person games like this don't usually have great graphics due to them not being needed really. The detail within this game are balanced, which is what i like to see in games now, because it's all well and good having fantastic graphics, but if you then have a rubbish short story line, it shows what they focused more on. But that's my personal opinion.

Controls
The controls in Afterlight are quite hard to get used to if you're not familiar with a mouse and keyboard in 3rd person games, though i got used to it relatively fast, it could tale the less experienced person a bit longer. But I'd rather use a controller for this type of game due to the layout being pre customized. I mean, you can program each button to what ever one the keyboard, but remembering them all is a task in it's own. So the controller is the easiest option for this game.

Ratings
Gameplay: 7/10
Graphics: 7/10
Controls: 8/10
Overall: 7/10

This is a nice game to play, but hard to get used to if you don't have the right equipment. So just be careful if you play this game. Although it's not my type of game personally I would recommend it to anyone that like a calm gaming session.
