I was fortunate enough to get a new monitor for Christmas. My mother was not sure what monitor to get in the store and went with the 23" Dell S2340M based off a clerks suggestion. She handed me the receipt and told me to make sure I take it back if its not the one I need. For the $200 price range, is this a good monitor? or could I get a one more suitable for gaming in this price range? I'm only asking not to sound greedy or spoiled, but because I don't know too much about monitors to know if this is the one I need.

My PC specs are:
Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor
Gigabyte GA-Z87X-D3H ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
G.Skill Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Kingston SSDNow V300 Series 120GB 2.5" Solid State Disk
Seagate Barracuda 2TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Asus GeForce GTX 760 2GB Video Card

My FPS can range anywhere from 30-100+ depending on the game and settings. I've heard low response times and 120 HZ is what to look for, but if I'm not mistaking, they can be costly.

Thanks Guys for helping, and I hope you guys had a good holiday.

In my honest opinion it all boils down to if you like the monitor. In a 200$ price range I think this is a really good looking monitor though.

7ms response time? That's really slow. I can link you to a 1ms response time monitor around the same price range if you want.

~ Zyn

Edit: It's only 1 inch off and it's 2ms.

Edit 2: One that's 24in. and one 22in. 22in. is $10 cheaper and the 24in. is $10 more than what you have.

Ok, thanks. Go ahead and link it to me, and I will check it out. What about the refresh rate? I've heard you get screen tearing if your FPS is high and refresh rate is low, but I game on a 60 Hz and never experienced it. Do you know if there are any major differences other than screen tearing?

I haven't owned enough monitors to really know what my preference is. I just really want something that has a good resolution, and provides a great gaming experience. I play a vast majority of online games, and I know the specs of a monitor can contribute a lot to that.

To be honest a response time under 5ms is good enough

Ok you don't know anything. Anything under 5Ms is good.To be honest there is a slight difference and chances are you won't see the difference.

I recently got a Insignia from Best buy thats 24in, 1080p, with a 5ms response time and I only spend $80 on it. Picture is fantastic and I have never played on a screen that has felt more responsive. Have yet to play anything over 60 FPS yet so I don't know yet if that will be an issue, but it is FANTASTIC for the money. I got in on sale, but I think they are still selling it for around $100.

Anyone who tells you 1ms or bust is full of it or has alot of cash. You can buy a 1ms Asus monitor, but prepare to pay an arm and a leg for it. Same thing for 120HZ. If you think about it, you will be playing most of your games at around 60HZ and NONE of your games will be reaching 120HZ. If you want to spend at least another $100 on a monitor then go for it, personally I don't think it will be worth your money.
