Hey James, I think its a great idea to be honest, and it looks good.. I agree with others comments but also disagree.. I think you need to be a little more open minded with the logo thats all. But for someone who has only being doing graphics for a month or two isn't bad at all!

I know you wanted a plain logo but plain logos only really look good in plain backgrounds (personal opinion)

So i quickly whiped this little thing.. don't really know what to call it? A guide? I won't be stealing your logo just so y'know i just thought it might help you by doing this

1. Sketch your logo
2. Design
3. Find a suitable color
4. Experiment until you are happy with the final part

(Don't judge my final, I made it with little effort to just help you out )

Hope this helps you!

EDIT: Here is another quick logo that only took 2 mins (literally) but is quite effective

What I think Cherry was trying to do was show how when making a logo you want to start off with a basic concept, then creat various different ones, altering things, until you have one that you really feel works effectively. This is called a logo design process. It's usually just making sketches of your logo on a piece of paper and tinkering around with it. Typically your first idea, you'll feel is the best, but as you continue, you come across new ideas that are more effective.

Here's a video to show the process a bit. I plan on posting a logo I've been working on, tomorrow, and including the design process, and finished logo..
