been hearing about it but what does it have to do with the legends coming out that they make the market crash?

Yes when legends are released a lot of packs will be opened which will most likely crash the market prices.

Simple economics.
When the Legends cards are released, a lot of people are going to open packs. The more packs that are opened, the more cards there will be on the market. The supply will become greater than the demand which will cause people to undercut other players prices thus reducing the price of the players on the market.
If you have expensive players, it's best to sell them soon.
