Edit: Sorry guys, but Erik has made it clear that he is not able to discuss the future of Fallout. Sorry!

Placeholder:
Questions and answers will be quoted from the 2nd page onward in to here to hopefully prevent people from asking the same question.

And from myself Erik, it is an honor to have you host this Q&A here!

XanderChaos wrote Before the incoming flood of Fallout related questions hits:

As someone with experience in both voice acting and formal acting, how do the two compare?
Similarly, is there a big difference between acting for TV vs movies? Do you prefer one over the other?

I love both. They exercise different muscles. TV and movies are very specific and usually understated. Voice work lets me just go for broke.

Damn, that's a lot of questions! First, I love everything about the creative geniuses at Bethesda. I hope to be in as many projects as they want me to be in. I wish I could comment of the future of Fallout! I will say that I've crushed many a Super Mutants in my day!

ETDellums wrote
James- wrote Who inspired you to do this?

What is the best part of your job?

Too many inspirations. Anthony Hopkins, Morgan Freeman, Meryl Streep, so many fine actors DeNiro, Pacino, Walken. (I love the bad guys) Morgan's voice work is stellar.

ETDellums wrote
Tea wrote Was voice acting what you aspired to be when you were growing up? If not, what did you aspire to be and why did you choose voice acting over this?
I always wanted to act and make films. I was a DJ in college and loved using my voice. I really stumbled into voice work.

ETDellums wrote
Hei wrote Did you get the role you wanted to be?
If not, what role did you want to play?

Yes! I wanted Three Dog. I just went over the top with him and they loved it!

ETDellums wrote
HarryWilliamJohnson wrote What was your favorite line that you voice acted whilst making Fallout 3 ?

so many great lines. I couldn't stop laughing with the "did somebody fart" line!

ETDellums wrote
Imp wrote Did you get much input into your characters, their personailities etc?
I created all of the howls etc. for Three Dog. They whole essence of the guy I created. They came up with all the great dialogue!

Eaton wrote Hi Erik Todd Dellums, thanks for taking the time out of your surly busy schedule to answer the community's questions!

I'm a big fan of Skyrim and a some of my friends are into it as well. It's fair to say that you probably had a role in the game's great success.

Skyrim is more than a year old now, starting to get to 2. How much longer does Bethesda plan to support Skyrim? Is there still content in the works or have you guys moved onto bigger and better projects?

Do you guys have any plans for future major Elder Scrolls titles?

I don't expect you to give specific information, but any hints or summaries would be appreciated!
Man, always good to get Skyrim questions. Such a beautiful game! I wish I had a larger role. Good thing Nazir survives! I don't have word on the future of Skyrim. I do know that they are hard at work on...something! and I'm involved.

FreNeTiC_ViruZ wrote What was your reaction when you first played the game or witnessed someone play the game and heard yourself?
I was so excited. I couldn't believe how cool it was.

ETDellums wrote
Pale wrote To become a star like yourself do you have any tips

e.g. when to start and how to present yourself

thank you
I still can't believe that I'm voicing material with the likes of Liam Neeson! I key is simply to believe in your gifts and to not hold back. When I auditioned for Fallout, I didn't even know what the game was. I just gave it all I could and hoped they liked what I did. Believe and it will happen!

ETDellums wrote
joey791 wrote was it really hard trying to get into character and whats your fav food
Many voices are easy for me, but Three Dog's throaty rasp was tough. I had to do more than 700 lines! I love anything my Mom cooks!

ETDellums wrote
Muscle_Man wrote Was the their any one standing in your way to pursuing this dream?
I was the only person standing in my way. Get fear out of the way and anything is possible.

ETDellums wrote
Imagine wrote How do you get a jump start in a career like this? Like how do you get yourself out there?

EDIT: I have to ask another question. You don't have to answer this one, but, does a career like this pay the bills? Meaning, is it enough to get though life without having another job?
I made a tape of myself doing some voices and reading some material. A friend from college remembered I was a radio DJ and brought me in to narrate and I was off and running. I acted on a TV show and was a villain. A producer loved it and had me voice a character on Avatar, The Last Airbender. Suddenly I was a voice actor. You can certainly pay the bills with enough work, but you need a lot of it until you're like Liam Neeson!

ETDellums wrote
Teezeh wrote Is three dog going to be in Fallout 4?
All I can say is there better be a Fallout 4 and Three Dog better be in it! sorry I have no details.

ETDellums wrote
gamer649 wrote What was it like voicing Three Dog in Fallout 3? I loved listening to the radio in Fallout 3.
Three Dog was a blast. I just went bananas screaming and growling all over the place!

ETDellums wrote
Heil wrote When recording for the games, do you ever screw up reading the lines?

Did you ever play any type of console when you where a kid/teen? (n64, game cube, etc....if they had that stuff)

P.S. I feel bad for you, having to answer all these questions Lol
Half the fun is screwing up! Sometimes the screw ups make the best lines in the games! When I play it's X-Box

ETDellums wrote
PeachySafe wrote Anything on Fallout 4?
They've seal the Dog's lips. Follow me on Twitter@ETDellums for updates.

ETDellums wrote
iLuSioNz wrote Q: Was there any lines cut from the scrips of both Nazir and Three Dog? (If you can remember)
I can't remember. They had me do hundreds.

ETDellums wrote
PeachySafe wrote When will Fallout 4 get announced?
Also Fallout tv series sounds bad because some other company might pick it up

I wish I could answer your question, but my lips have been sealed. Bethesda is very secretive.

ETDellums wrote
gooddrummer239 wrote is it fun doing the voices
Oh, yeah. It's great fun.

ETDellums wrote
Yolo wrote Hey Erik, me and a few others are wondering, Is there any news on Half Life 3 that you may know of? If so, what? Thanks
Also, how was it hearing yourself in a huge game like this while playing?
I don't have any news on Half Life. It's a blast hearing my voice in a successful game!

ETDellums wrote
Carelessness wrote What was the FIRST line in Skyrim you heard yourself say?

P.S Thanks for taking time to answer our questions
I can't remember. I was too busy studying what my character Nazir looked like!

ETDellums wrote
Puddle_Of_Mudd wrote Hey Erik how did you like voicing the Three Dog character in Fallout 3? Also what did you think of narrating "How the Universe Works"?
I loved voicing Three Dog and can't wait to (I guess I should I hope to) do him again soon! "How the Universe Works" is a very special show. I'll return later this year to do another season of it for Science Channel.

ETDellums wrote
-LOST- wrote I have a couple questions...

How has your career impacted your life?(before/after)
Do you find yourself saying lines when playing a game or watching a movie?
Do you have any involvement in the game itself?
What was your favorite film/game you have done?
This is a crazy career. I think I've quit it once a year! But every gig I get makes me love it more. I often forget the lines since there are hundreds in games, so I'm always surprised when I hear them. I don't have any involvement other than acting. I loved the show "Homicide" and the film "Boycott" and the show "The Wire"

ETDellums wrote
BULLETSTORM wrote Q. first of thanks for doing this

what do you prefer voice acting or method acting ?
They're both terrific. I just finished a new CBS show called "Golden Boy" where I play a man who has killed 13 people and shows no emotion. Loved it.

ETDellums wrote
OHARA wrote Question is about getting yourself into character during the recording of games.

When you were voice acting for the games, did you get to see the character in action whilst you were recording or did you just have to imagine it?
I always jazz myself with music and a creative background to get into character.

What would you say is the hardest challenge you had while voice acting for these games? Were there any things you did to prepare yourself?

Thank you for doing this for the community! Great to have you on this site.
