If you want open, the Philips Fidelio L1 is great as a total package. Not the absolute best sound at the price point, but they can be used sans amplifier, are built extremely well, look insanely good, and are more versatile. Here's some good reading.

If you want something closed, the AKG K550 would be my recommendation. You might want to talk to Ishcabible first, they sound funky to some people. Not bad by any means, but funky. Most people I see are all over these.

Open headphones leak sound in and out but can sound better. More expensive headphones tend to be open. In the OP I copied what Ishcabible said about open vs. closed headphone design, he nailed it.

You go on believing that, Mr. overnight headphone expert. If you want to dispute any particular headphone, I can explain in detail why I recommend it. I don't blindly recommend anything, and you've provided zero evidence my recommendations are bad. Prove it. If I don't know what I'm talking about, I keep my mouth shut and it might serve you well to do the same.

Have you ever heard of something called full stop? I've actually heard half of the stuff rootbeer recommends and I'm willing to bet you haven't even heard one.

Read the OP, it's covered. The question is, what else have you heard?
