the only requirement is that they have to have velour pads

The Ultrasone HFI-780 is just about perfect for you. The S-Logic tech, which actually works, will make them awesome for movies and they have a movie friendly sound signature. For your music, they should be pretty good as well.

Just read you need velours, though. In that case, I'd get the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro or put velour pads on the Ultrasones.

If you can get them with a low impedance and a good price, go for it! I haven't seen any like that, though, maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

I think I'm going to take some IRL pics. Be back with that soon. I'll also post the MSRPs of all of my gear. Just to dispel this cancerous stupidity.

Sony J20 ($10)
Sony EX-082 (Free with DAP)
Ultimate Ears Super.fi 4 ($30)
V-Moda Bass Freq ($15)
XePort 3010 ($10)
XePort 5010 ($15)
XePort 7010 ($20)

Total: $2,694. (I may have done a miscalculation or two, but that's a roughly accurate number) And I'm missing some things. I didn't want to seem elitist, but if you're going to go there...and *cue people saying I've wasted money*

Stuff I've had: AKG K240DF ($100), Audio Technica A500 ($70), Brainwavz B2 ($170), Fanny Wang On Ear ($150), Hifiman HE500 ($600), Hifiman RE272 ($250)

Total with this: $3,808.

And I've extensively used Beats with my own equipment and amps. They aren't worth the price tag at all. Even my K271's smoke any Beats.

Have you tried any headphones other than Beats?

And the DT990 would definitely be better than the DT770. They're not as veiled as the DT770.

And the O2 prebuilt is not mine. It's borrowed. Mine will cost me ~$70 and the ODAC will be more. Not sure about that. Grado SR80i, JVC HA RX700, and Sennheiser HD555 are not pictured.

If anyone else is in need of an O2 board, I have extras! One is going out to Ishcabible.

I'd save my money and get the Xeport 3010 for rock. The 5010 is also a good option if you want something more bassy, and there's also the Soundmagic PL30.

You'll get awesome results from that budget and those preferences. If you want an IEM, the Sony EX600, Vsonic GR07, Radius W Pro DDM, and Monster Turbine Pro Gold are all incredible. If you want an over-ear headphone, the V-Moda M80 is exactly what you're looking for. Beats hardly even compare to any of these. Not even the Pros. If you can take the Beats back, you're golden!
