I decided to type this thread out as a lot of people seem to keep asking these same questions day-in-day-out and it's becoming a nuisance.

I take ALL credit for the tutorials & images used unless stated otherwise.

@Flamers: No I didn't copy and paste anyone's work,besides Colorado880's dashlaunch setup guide,with full credit given.

How to Install XexMenu:

There are two ways to install Xex Menu to your JTAG and here I'll show you how to do both.

Method 1 - Transfer Cable:

Requirements:

Transfer cable
Console HDD
Xex Menu
Xport360

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Attach your transfer cable to your HDD and open Xport360.

Move the CODE9999 folder to partition 3\Content\0000000000000000\ [CODE9999 HERE]

If you don't already have the "Content" and "0000000000000000" folders, make them manually.

Put the HDD back into your JTAG and go to "Games Library" and launch Xex Menu.

Method 2 - ISO Version:

Requirements:

Xex Menu
USB Memory Stick

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Burn the ISO version to a disk and put it into your JTAG.

Before booting it get your USB and put the folder from the download into it.

Then plug that USB into your JTAG and launch the disk.

Using the Xex Menu find your USB by pressing "RB" until you reach your storage devices and from there use the DPAD to navigate through the Storage devices until you find your USB.

Press "Y" on the folder on your USB and scroll to "Copy" and press the "A" button to confirm the copy.

Then move to your Consoles internal HDD (The one that is on the top) or in a Jasper consoles case install it to the built-in internal memory. The reason for doing this so it shows up in the "Games Library".

Once you have found your desired location press "Y" and select "Paste" and press the "A" button to confirm the paste.

Now you should be able to launch Xex Menu from your console at any time.

How to Setup and Use XM360:

For those of you who don't know XM360 is a homebrew application which allows you to unlock Xbox Live Arcade (XBLA) Games,Downloadable Content (DLC) and game saves on your JTAG.

NOTE: DLC MUST be on the Console's HDD,not a external one,or it will not be detectable to the console, same goes for game saves.

Xbox Live Arcade Games can be stored anywhere, external HDD or Console HDD.

So onto how to install the application,

Download the XM360 from the internet (I'll add a link at a later stage)

Make a folder called XM360 and put all the files in there, this is purely for ease.

Now you have the choice to either FTP it or transfer it via USB,if you wish to FTP it view the tutorial for that further down on the post.

USB Transfer

Get a small USB memory stick (empty one is a lot easier) and put the folder onto the root of the USB,to avoid issues, make sure there is no .xex file on the root of the USB.

Now plug the USB into your JTAG and launch Xexmenu, from there go to your storage devices using RB and once you get to the,use the DPAD buttons (left & right) to navigate between your storage devices.

Once you found your USB memory stick, press Y on the XM360 folder and scroll down to "Copy" and press "A" to copy it.

From there again use the DPAD to find whatever storage device you want to store it on,then simply press "Y" at the location you are happy with and scroll down to "Paste" and press "A" to confirm the pasting of the copied file.

Now all you have to do to launch XM360 is press "A" on the default.xex,

To use XM360 to unlock XBLA Games on your JTAG so you can use the full versions.

How to Install Freestyle Dash 2.0:

First things first, you'll need the download of the actual file.

Okay to start off with you'll need to extract the contents of the file into a folder and name that folder "Freestyle".

Once you found your USB memory stick, press Y on the "Freestyle" folder and scroll down to "Copy" and press "A" to copy it.

From there again use the DPAD to find whatever storage device you want to store it on,then simply press "Y" at the location you are happy with and scroll down to "Paste" and press "A" to confirm the pasting of the copied file.

To launch FSD select the default.xex and press the "A" Button.

How to Install Dashlaunch:

Credit to Colorado880 for the whole guide and all images.

1. First we have to setup Dashlaunch. The version included in the link is 2.22 and works with all FreeBOOT revisions (9199, 12611, 12625, 13146). You don't need to be on the latest dashboard to install it. Drag the Dashlaunch folder to a USB or FTP it to the HDD.

2. Before we install Dashlaunch, we will need to have the launch.ini setup. This file basically tells dashlaunch what to do when you boot up your jtag. This file needs to stay on the top layer of your HDD. Right click launch.ini and open it in notepad.

You should see this

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

The one I included already has Xexmenu as the default. If you know how to change the paths you can do it yourself. If you have Xexmenu on a USB, change Hdd to Usb. Here are some examples.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

3. Now put the edited launch.ini and the dashlaunch folder on your HDD. The launch.ini should be on the Top most layer of your HDD like so...

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

4. Launch the default.xex inside the Dashlaunch/Installer folder. (Make sure the launch.ini is on your HDD on the top layer). You should see a black screen with white letters.

It will ask you to install or exit. Hit A to install.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

It will than ask you to update your settings (launch.ini) Hit no.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

It will lastly ask you to update your freeBOOT patches. To avoid problems, hit no and than shutdown.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

5. After Dashlaunch turns off your xbox, turn it back on and it should boot right to xexmenu. If it freezes on the boot screen, you edited your launch.ini wrong and need to fix it. Now we are gonna setup Freestyle Dash. Put the folder anywhere on your HDD and start it up.

6. Go to your settings and edit them to your liking. I am not gonna make a section for this because it is to your liking. Just make sure under Content Settings > Manage Game Paths, set that up right so your games show in the dashboard.

How to Install a game to Xex Menu via Disk:

Very simple to do,but yet some people still have trouble with this.
Go to your folder named "Games" and enter it.
Create a folder (Press Y and scroll to create folder) and name it with the title of the game,
Once created, click into this new folder,
Now while inside,Press Y again and click "Copy DVD".

Now there are two method to do this,

One works for me,the other does not,but it is the opposite for others.

Method 1:

Put the game in the disk tray and manually close the tray, wait 7-10 seconds and click "Confirm",it should now be installing.

Method 2:

Put the game into the disk tray and select "Confirm",the tray should close and the game should now begin to install.

Known Errors:

Game ripping for about 2 seconds and disappearing - Try method 2,if problem remains ask for help.

Installing Themes to Xex Menu:

Requirements:

Xex Menu ISO version.
Themes.

Xex Menu Download - TTG Downloads

Retro Nintendo Theme - TTG Downloads

Xbox Development Kit Theme - TTG Downloads

Black 360 Theme - TTG Downloads

You will need to install the ISO Version of Xex Menu, this is the one that has a default.xex file, this is what it looks like,

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

To install themes to Xex Menu you have to put them into the skin folder, found in the media folder.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Just drag and drop the folder of the skin into this folder like these are in the following image,

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

NOTE: Sometimes skins cause Xex Menu to not work, the next tutorial will be how to fix this problem.

How to Fix Xex Menu Crashing

Sometimes when using different themes on Xex Menu it will refuse to launch and display an error message stating that it is missing files.

This is extremely easy to fix.

All you have to do is go to your JTAGs memory (console memory NOT external HDD) and go to games, scroll to the bottom of the list and you'll see "Unknown Game",go into that and delete the game save, this is basically the options save for Xex menu.

Since you deleted it the settings will go back to default and Xex Menu will launch again.

Using Xex Tool:

XexTool is a very useful program for patching .xex files.

It appears as a Trojan to many anti-virus',one to note is AVG.

To make AVG ignore the program do the following.

Go to the main window of AVG which should look like this,

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

From there click "Resident Shield"

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

From there go to the bottom of the window and click "Manage Exceptions"

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

From there just click "Edit List" and add the destination of the XexTool.exe file, not just the folder.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Once that is done click "OK" and then click "Apply" in the bottom right-hand corner of the window to save your changes.

Now you will want to get the "default.xex" into the same folder as "XexTool"

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Now you can open a cmd.exe window by holding down "Shift" and right clicking on the folder and selecting "Open command window here"

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

You just have to enter whatever command you need and press "Enter" for it to do it's magic.

How to Stop a Game Requiring a System Update:

When you are on a lower dashboard, for example 9199 or 12611 and a game has been released and the current dashboard at the time is higher than your one,to play the game it will prompt you to update your system and you cannot play it until you do.

Since you console is a JTAG,that would be problematic and doing so would make brick the console as you would be installing an official Microsoft update.

However, there are two ways you can get around this, without updating your dashboard.

Method 1 - Patching the Xex:

Requirements:

XexTool
Default.xex

NOTE: XexTool sometimes appears to be a virus on Windows Computers, rest assured it is NOT an infected file.

XexTool Download - TTG Downloads Section

This method is basically taking the default.xex of the game and patching it so you do not require the update.

The first thing you should do is delete the "$SystemUpdate" folder that comes with the game, even with a patched .xex if you leave that there you will have some issues.

Now for the XexTool part.

Before reading any further, make sure you have read "Using Xex Tool" above or you'll be confused as hell.

So now make sure you have "Xextool" AND the "default.xex" of the game you want to patch in the same folder.

Now like in the "Using Xex Tool" tutorial above hold down "Shift" and right click inside the folder with the .xex and Xex Tool and click "Open command window here".

Now all you have to type into the window is this EXACTLY as it is here, "xextool -r l default.xex" but without the two invert commas.

It should now look like this,

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Press "Enter" and you should get this message,

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

In rare cases this doesn't work for everyone so if this fails to work instead of using "xextool -r l default.xex" use "xextool -r a default.xex,as pictured below.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Then press "Enter" on your keyboard and this should be the end result.

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

You should now have no need to update to play the game.

NOTE: If you use google you may be able to find patched versions of games, but patching them yourself,as you've seen here should only take you 1 minute or less.

Method 2 - Dashlaunch:

If you install dashlaunch it will pre-patch all xex's so you do not need to patch them yourself to play them without being prompted for an update.

NOTE: Dashlaunch isn't for everyone,as it can be confusing to setup and doing it wrong will result in your console having an error. Just a fair warning.

How to Setup System Link:
[Not Possible ATM]

This guide is also for MW2 on TU 6.

For this, you must be on the latest TU on your JTAG as your retail and JTAG must be on the same TU and since the retail will be going online,it will need the newest one.

Needed:

JTAG,
A router,
Latest TU on Jtag,
Unbanned Retail console,
Either 2 Ethernet cords or 1 cord and a wireless adapter for one console.

Process:

Plug both consoles into the router/connect via wireless,
Turn on JTAG and start System Link Lobby,
Turn on retail and sign into the account you wish to modify, (Must have Live access for unlocks online.
Load up the game and enter "System Link",usually found in multiplayer,
Try and join and game and search for available ones,
Once you find your JTAGs one, join it and then do what you want.

Known Errors:

Not working due to not having the correct Tile Update.

MW2:

You MUST select "XBL Unlocks" to "Yes" for the changes to take effect online.
You must also take the account alone and play one game with it to set the modifications.

How to Setup FTP:

Note:

You must have FreeStyle Dash installed in order to use FTP on a JTAG.

FTP is basically transferring files across a network connection,it is quicker in-general,and also easier than transferring files using a USB Stick.

You need a program in order to do this,I would recommend using,

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ] .

Since this uses a network, you must connect your JTAG to a network.
This can be done in two ways,
Ethernet Cable or Wireless Adapter.

Now on the retail dash connect to the Network (Not XBL) and load up FreeStyle Dash,
While there, click the right analog stick which will bring up the consoles IP address in the bottom left corner.(with Default Skin)

Right down your IP address and keep it safe for the time being and go back to your laptop.

Now install FlashFXP and go to "Sites" and then "Site Manager".

Now click "New Site" and make the Username & password both "xbox".

The "Site Name" can be whatever you want.

However the "Address" is important, copy in the number you took download earlier as your IP address for your JTAG and once all of these are done click "Apply" and "Connect".

You should now be connected to your JTAG via [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] .

Known Errors:

Disconnecting from the JTAG - You left FSD E.g. Loaded retail dash/loaded a game.

It worked yesterday but not today? - Check to make sure the IP of the console has not changed,if it has, just edit the site manager.

How to load a Patch on Call of Duty:

This is a guide for TU 6 on MW2.

For any other TU,just download a patch for that TU,the TU itself and working patched xex's.

Also, the exact same for other games, just get their TU's,xex's and patches.

Download TU 6 and put it on your JTAG,(Or use FSD to do so)
Download a patch that is compatible with TU 6,
Download the patched default.xex and default_mp.xex for TU 6.

Copy the patch into the MW2 games folder with the files and overwrite the current patch.
Copy the two .xex's into the same folder and overwrite the existing files.

Now the patch should be working when you go to play.

Known Errors:

"The disc is unreadable" - Wrong TU for patch/xex's.

Feel free to request a tutorial, just leave a reply on the thread.

If you have any issues also leave a reply on the thread as I will check it regularly.

Amazing post, you have helped me in the past and I am sure you will still be there when I don't know what I am doing. Can't wait to install dashlaunch so I don't have to mess around with patching XeX's
