Credit goes to Xbox.com for some of the information. I write the tutorial. I have edited the tutorial to make it easier and added tips in and made a F.A.Q to troubleshoot problems you may get.

Frequently asked questions

What does the update cost?
Nothing. It's free.

How can I tell if my console software is up to date?
If your console is connected to Xbox Live, you have the latest console software. When you connect to Xbox Live, you are automatically prompted to update your software if an update is available.

Do I have to install the update?
No. However, if you want to play or communicate on Xbox Live, you must have the latest console software. New games might also require the update before you play them.

Kinect games might not play properly if your console software is not up to date.

Can I go back to the old software version if I change my mind?
No. Once your console is updated, it will stay updated.

I cant connect to Xbox Live. What should I do?
If you cant connect to Xbox Live, try using the Xbox Live Connect Solution.

My Xbox 360 will not detect the update? What should I do. Check/try the following...

-Your USB is configured to Xbox 360 Use.

Here is how.

Insert USB into your Xbox 360 > Go to System Settings > Memory.

You will have a list of all storage devices connected to your Xbox. Click on your USB and you will be asked to configure it for Xbox 360 use. You will only get this if it is not configured already.

- Clear System Cache.

Here is how.

Go to System Settings > Memory. Hover over your Xbox 360 Hard Drive > Press Y, press Clear System Cache. Do this three times and restart Xbox 360.

Still not fixed? Try these.

- Restart the Xbox 360 console.
Disconnect the device from the USB port, and then turn off the console. After 5 to 10 seconds, turn the console back on. After the console has restarted, reconnect the device to the USB port.
Turn off the console, remove the power cord from the power outlet, reconnect the power cord and then turn on the console again.
Disconnect any unnecessary devices from the console.
Determine whether the USB device requires a separate power supply. If it does, attach the power supply.
Connect the USB device to a different USB port on the console, and see whether the device works. If the device works in another USB port, the Xbox 360 console may require service.

My Xbox 360 detects the USB, prompts me for the update, but I get (x) error code when attempting to update?

Try these..

- Try installing again. This worked for me. Simple too.

- Do you have enough space on your HDD? Go to system settings > Memory > And hover over your HDD to check you have at least around 200MB.

- Clear System Cache. Corrupt/bad files can cause issues. Navigate above on how to do this.

- Restart Xbox 360.

- Remove and reinsert your USB.
