Steam is a very good place to buy games, and you can indeed play them with other friends who have Steam, but there are some games on Origin or other places on the internet that you can't get on Steam. Steam probably has the widest game base, though.

Also, the 640 apparently isn't that good.

no, not really the 640 is pretty bad, and you could get a better card for just a little bit more and be able to run even better settings.

And im not a steam person, so I dont know much about it, but I have bought a few of my games off of there, and its obviously trusted. I dont think you need steam to play with friends, cuz you can use other software out there to communicate with them.

I was told GT 640 was really good where did you get that list from?
