they dies after a certain amount of time mine do it all the time i made a pen for them all, went mining and they all was gone by the time i came back

They disappear during the night because they can't be kept yet, hopefully they bring out a update soon for it.

just make sure there is someone within 7 chunks(112 blocks) or so don't go anymore than 120 blocks away or they will DE-spawn.

WANNA know the real answer? its because in this old version animals de-spawn (disappear) if you get to far away from them.
