So recently I bought the newest edition of the HD-PVR: Gaming Edition. This uses HDMI cables to record the screens instead of the composite cables that were required before. This allows for 1080p recording with simplicity.

The problem is, I hooked it all up and my screen lags. There is a delay between the HDMI IN port and the HDMI OUT port. The screen/xbox reacts about a second or 2 after I move on my controller.

The way it is set up:

Xbox->HDMI->HDPVR->HDMI->TV

Then of course, the HD PVR hooks up to my PC/laptop. The TV screen lag is about the same as the PC screen lag. The product is advertised as "no delay passthrough" which I find to be a complete false statement.

If anyone has one of these, or is good with things like this feel free to leave a reply. I'd love to hear any idea's you guys have. At the moment, this is impossible to play while recording/livestreaming/anything.

The only possible solution I thought of is to purchase an HDMI splitter to split the HDMI signal prior to the HD PVR and send one HDMI cable directly to the TV and the other to the HD PVR then to my PC. But I'd like to avoid buying more cables and making my wire jumble even worse.

None of the HD PVRs or alike capture boxes are lag free i been using hauppauge products for a little while. And i always had a lag thats why the usb hooks up to the computer and the composite cable or hdmi straight to the tv.

I think using a splitter would be your best bet. Especially through HDMI cable. And, with HDTV's there's always more lag than CRT TV's for some reason. No clue why.
But again, using a splitter would be your best bet.

Good luck!

I expect lag in my recording program on my PC, but I shouldn't get lag from the console to the TV. It's advertised as "no delay", so there should not be a delay between the xbox and TV.

I have an original HD PVR as well, and that works fine from the console to the TV, it just has lag on the PC.

I have never had a HD PVR but have you tried recording in a lower p? something like 720 rather than 1080?

It maynot be the reason for your lagbut if it is then i would try it in 720p...

I agree To use a splitter, that's your best bet.
or
record with different settings
I don't have a HD PVR
I use a Avermedia C821 and the quality is just as good as the hauppauge,
so i don't complain

Edit*- If its only when you record it's most likely the recording settings.
Check out some different settings that might help!

Edit2*-Okay sorry for so many edits but trying to help
Here is a video that i found talking about screen lag and how to fix it.
Its a more expensive way but does the trick apparently.
Start Watching around 19 min and it ends around 21-22!

The last video is exactly what I thought of doing, but haven't done yet. I mean, it's advertised as no monitor lag, so I shouldn't have to put out the extra bucks and work to fix Hauppage's problem. The best thing though, is that HDMI is now supported on the latest HD PVR 2: Gamers Edition. This saves some extra work of converting HDMI to composite like they were talking about in the video.

I'll look around and experiment, but if anyone knows anything else; PLEASE POST.

Hauppage wrote Play while you record with our no-delay HDMI video passthrough!
HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition comes with real-time video pass through, so you can watch your game play on your HD TV while recording your game on your PCs disk drive. Simply connect HD PVR 2 in between your game console and your HD TV set (HDMI in and out plus Component Video cables included).

That quote above is directly from there site. It clearly says that there should be zero pass through delay, but that is not the case when I am using this.
